Charging the eBike Battery, Charger getting Hot

During charging my Battery the Charger warms up quite a bit. The Battery hat only about 10% remaining when I put her on the Charger.
How warm is too hot ?
Right now I could still hold the Charger in my Hand.
When the Battery is fully charged the Charger will cool down by itself while still connected to Power supply and Batterie.
Cheers

Its normal for a charger to get hot. If it has a metal case, you can try adding some adhesive heat sinks, which help it cool itself.

The heat thing is especially common on chargers that have no fan. This is a good thing as the fan is a cheap part that is typically the easiest thing to fail, and once it does the charger is going to fry itself very quickly. Chargers that cool themselves with radiant heat get hot... but they are supposed to do that, and they keep themselves within tolerance without any moving parts that can fail on you.

Check the charge plug where it plugs into the battery during charging.
That plug shouldn't feel nearly as hot as the charger.

My electronics teacher used to say
"If it's too hot to tuts, then it's too hot"

(He was Dutch and spoke with an accent. 😂)
Agree with too hot. The design of a transformer will always yield heat from electrons pressured into wires that naturally cause resistance.

If your transformer (charger) is excessively hot then you should ensure adequate ambient air space around the charger to disperse the heat. Or, possibly add heat sinks to the charger case As M@Robertson recommends.

A cell phone charger will get hot. The larger the charger transformer, the more heat that must be dissipated. A 4 Amp charger will often get warmer than a 2 Amp charger. Amperage is current (electron) flow.

It is up to the EE to design the product with components that do not create excessive heat.
heat sinks and fans are design options, but a well designed bike battery charger should not get excessively hot.

@Urbancowboy do you have any pictures of the charger marking label or to link to it for sale online? Is it safety certified?

And how about your e-bike is it safety certified as well?

Please note poor components and materials within a battery charger, e-bike electrical system, battery pack, etc. can cause electric shock, explosion, or fire field event. Having safety certified products and systems reduces this risk substantially. That's why every refrigerator, washing machine, water heater, and other products in your home have safety certification. e-Bikes and their chargers should not be the exception especially when one could argue they pose substantially more fire/explosion risk.

Both my Specialized chargers (2 differing bikes) get very hot during charging. Very.

Not sure if my eBike is safety certified or not and by whom and if I really would trust them ?
Attached a Pic of the Back of one of the Chargers. My Bike came with 2 Batteries and 2 Chargers and yes I charge each Batterie individually, they are not allowed communicating with each order while charging.

Cheers

I can confirm the battery charger is UL Solutions certified and certification record can be found here: https://iq.ulprospector.com/en/profile?e=4787040 (if you are logged into the free system this link will work) or here https://productiq.ulprospector.com/en/profile/4787040/qqjq.e518934 (no login abridged version).

If you feel it's getting to the point of burning the skin, please send a UL Market Survellience request and we will investigate asap: https://market-surveillance.ul.com/.

Please note, a certified charger does not mean the full e-bike system is certified, please ensure to only buy e-Bikes that are safety certified. If you have any pictures or links to the e-bike I would be happy to check into that.

Thank you very much for your information.
My eBike is a Fucare Gemini X purchased new 2024 via Amazon and came with the 2 Chargers I am using. My Avatar shows my eBike.
Thank you again & Cheers

One other consideration is the condition of the battery.
are there any physical signs of damage?
just sayin’ be totally safe.
