Bosch Purion

Hi, this is my first post so please bear with me.
A couple of years ago I bought a Cube Pro with Bosch electric gear. I have ridden about 7700 miles since I bought it.
A month or so ago the Bosch Purion display became loose on the handle bar. On investigation I found the bracket had cracked in the hinge area, I glued the break so I could keep riding until I could get it into the repairer.
They have examined the damage and contacted Bosch who have said the following
"the damage caused could have come from a knock during a ride, whilst transporting or even when adjusting the screen on the bars"

The bike has never had a knock as it has never been on its side and how could adjusting the screen crack a metal bracket.
Has anybody else had a similar issue?
My plan is to contact Bosch direst for help. Anybody tried to contact Bosch Europe?
Hope somebody can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for reading.

Are you expecting then to fix it under warranty? I’m not sure at 7700 miles I would expect them to fix it for free.

People tend to abuse a good thing to a ridiculous point. Just saw on TV where some companies are going to start charging to return items. Too many have been abusing the system.

So if I read it right you two guys are suggesting that it is acceptable for a product that suffers from no stress in its working life to break after two years and that I should just suck up the £110 it will cost me to replace.
I guess that in another two years I will have to replace it again and pay whatever the cost is then.
Unbeleivable.

It's your word against theirs. Maybe you can just buy the bracket? I have a cracked one too, but pretty sure it's my fault from putting a lot of force on it (not on purpose) pushing it upstairs in walk mode. It's still on there just fine, but you can see the crack under bright light. Yours may have been cracked since it left the store and just now started to have a come apart.

foofer, I'll take ya up on that if the OP doesn't bite. Very generous of you!

Hi Rob. Unfortunatley you cannot buy the bracket only the whole unit, this is not good when the whole world is talking about sustainabilty and the need to repair products not dispose of them.
I have made this point to Bosch Ebike division in Europe. I await their comments.

Thanks for the offer but I guess the shipping costs would be prohibitive and then I would bhave to pat the dealer to fit it.

General question. Is 4000 miles a year a lot to have covered on my Ebike on road running only? My dealer seem to think it is.

Yes I am suggesting you have to pay for it if it’s no longer under warranty. Is it fair, maybe not. I’ve got the same display, I’ll have to keep an eye on it I guess. Do you have a picture of the break? Maybe me or someone else can help you fix it.

To answer your question on miles, I’d say you are riding your bike a lot more than most riders. I can’t say exactly but I’m around 2500 miles a year. I’m sure there are serious riders that do more than 4000 a year.

I did 9000 a year but 4000 is a fair amount.

I’m pretty cheap so I’d probably try and glue it or plastic weld it.

See if you can find a glue called e6000 its a silicone glue it ill glue it on but you can peel it off with some effort if needed.

I looked at mine and so far it’s good but I’ve got half the miles you do. I wonder if normal road vibration and pushing the buttons caused it to crack. What I would call normal use.

I have had a nyon mount that got all sloppy from vibration.

That is my thinking, normal use is all I have done. Now in discussions with Bosch E bikes Europe.
Will let you know the outcome.

I took a close look at mine today. This might be something you know but your pic you show is where the bracket is split for installation and has a tiny set screw. Is your bracket broken or did the set screw come loose?

Hi Dodgeman.
Yes the bracket is definitely broken.

Have had the last reply from Bosch, as you guys predicted, after looking at the images I supplied, for a second time, their conclusion is the damage is not due to defective manufacture. How they can tell from a few poor images I don't know but they have spoken.

So I will open the glue and try again, hoping it holds this time
