Hello everyone,

My first post here. Just got a Cannondale Moterra Neo 3 about 2 mos ago. Got about 750 miles on it so far. I have been having battery problems from day 1. Temperature too hot and system shuts down. This was occasional at first in Turbo mode only but now is worse. So I know it needs to go in for warranty but I just can't part with it yet and have been riding daily.
Ok here's the question. I bought a spare battery at Rei and the bike works flawlessly. The battery is dated 10/15/21...should I return this to REI for a newer one. It's basically a 2 yr old battery and had about 23 percent charge when I got it. I hate to return it dor another faulty one but I don't want an old battery if it's already degrading. I could also the new battery from Bosch and return the spare. I have till March. Sorry for the long post. Thoughts?

I would not worry about it my battery on mine was not fresh either. its got a warranty so I would not worry.

You should definitely get the bad battery replaced under warranty and don't use it ! I suppose the dealer will need your bike to pull error codes, but after that you should be able to get the bike back while they work through warranty process.

My spare powertube bought from REI was about 2 yrs old also and works fine. I think new batteries are shipped from the factory with <30% charge. Plus you have 365 days to return it if you notice any degradation.

Thanks! Definitely taking the bike in for the bad battery warranty repair. Just didn't want it sitting there over Christmas and New Year's.
We had 60° weather on Christmas so it was tough to take it into the shop.

Bosch recommend storage of their batteries at between 30 and 60% charge so I doubt that they would ship them at <30%.

You're probably correct, though if Bosch ever ships using air transport they would be required to have the batteries at max 30% state of charge per IATA regulations.

That's interesting and explains why the batteries are shipped at less than 30% charge. Does the 30% limit apply to both passenger and cargo only flights?

This size battery is forbidden as cargo on passenger flights and is also too powerful to be luggage or carry on by a passenger on a passenger flight.

Several brands' extenders are 160wh because that size may be carried on with the airlines approval(that may be a FAA rule in the US).
