I came across the BMW Active Hybrid ebike online, and it looks very stylish and has a Brose motor, which I love. But I can't find out if it is a Class 1 or a Class 3. I contacted two BMW dealerships, but if it isn't a car or a motorcycle, they don't know nothin' and don't want to know. It is a Brose S motor, so I'm thinking it must be a Class 1, but I was hoping that as a BMW, you'd think they build a bike that can go fast. It's a beautiful looking bike, but clearly it's a red-headed stepchild, as far as dealers are concerned. Anybody know anything?

So... Nobody knows anything about it? Not the BMW dealers and nobody on this forum? Sigh.

All the BMW ebikes I've read about since 2014/15, like the BMW Cruise with Bosch motor have been Euro spec of 15.5 MPH. Maybe this Brose version is different? They do make pretty ebikes, I really liked the Cruise. I don't know if they price the bikes too high or what, but they never stick with a model for very long before it disappears and a new model pops up a year or two later with a completely new drive system. Strange because they keep car and motorcycle models for a very long time.

Great, another BMW with no turn signals. :p

Is this bike even on the market? That's a pretty old article considering how quickly tech moves.

So I finally got an answer from a BMW dealer who is selling on eBay: it is a Class 1. If you are looking for a Class 1, it is a pretty sharp looking ebike, with a Brose motor. And you can get it for about $3250 from various BMW dealers on eBay. But don't expect them to know anything about them. It's like a red-headed stepchild, as far as these car dealerships are concerned.

My husband is looking for a Class 3, so he's going to get in line for a Vado 4.

Here in Japan they give the older style away to X5/X6 buyers as an enticement. I’m sure these newer versions will show up some day, however I always go for super hard cash discounts on demo vehicles - lucky to get a keychain haha. The bikes are also managed by the same department that does other bling like coffee cups and golf bags btw.

$3,000 bling! Ha! Well, if anybody wants one, there are a few to be had via eBay.

Certainly sounds like BMW is serious about selling eBikes if they put the same people that sell t-shirts and mugs in charge of eBikes sales. Yep.

Especially when you’re selling a quad turbo 3.0 liter diesel powered SUV along with it. 🤣
