"This journey is also an attempt to regain his Guinness World Record for the longest journey on an motorized bicycle — a title he previously held for a short time in 2013 before an American cyclist topped Halmo’s 6,721 kilometre record before the certificate even arrived in the mail.

The current record, now held by a different American cyclist, sits at 8,209 kilometres. He plans to up that number significantly to 10,500 kilometres."

Odd time of year to attempt this venture that far north but if he succeeds it will only add to the viability of eBikes as personal transport.

Make that "Guinness world record." Because the contestants in the Sun Trip rode over 12,000 km from Lyons, France to Guangzhou, China (without ever recharging from the grid, BTW), but didn't do the Guinness thing.

There's nothing "official" about the Guiness records, of course. It's a marketing tool and an interesting resource for a lot of fascinating facts. That's not a criticism, just true.
