Another one bites the dust.

Wow, I am glad to hear that both cyclists survived. Stay safe out there!

The sad part about this story is the idiot driver of this pickup truck will get off with nothing more than a fine. There is very little consequences for drivers in British Columbia who hit cyclists.

Sad but true... very similar to the many state laws in the US.

SAD? Wow What an Idiot : Hauling a Load like that ? What on earth were they even thinking ? How is this not a Lawsuit ? Negligence 101 WOW

Clearly that load was in need of a long trailer. You can be sure a lawsuit is in order.
Hes right that a painted line doesn’t create an infrastructure. We have a similar line along the road and lawn care companies park in that bike lane (and out halfway into the street) all the time while mowing in that area.

The link would not allow me to read the story. Was he actually hauling it like that or did the load somehow shift from hanging off the rear of the truck to the side during a fast stop, curve or something?

he said he did not notice that it had shifted.
So in other words he was hauling it with the tailgate up. Anyone who has ever hauled in a Pickup knows that in itself is a recipe for disaster : For a Lousy $10 You make a 2x4 Jig that tailgates just naturally hold in place : The Jig Extends the tailgate another 4-6 feet : This must have been loaded at a Home Depot or Menards where people loading it were inexperienced . Or didn't care

I used to have an adjustable bed extender that attached to a 2" receiver. I once hauled a 40' ladder in the bed of a Nissan Frontier using that with no problem.

Pick up owners carrying their boats is another big issue !
The boats width usually extends about 1-2feet on each side, depending on the boat.

Either go very close to the shoulder/sidewalk or take the whole lane @30mph.
