Acadia Park

Hello,

Are the carriage roads at acadia park currently open? I know the website says closed for Covid, but I have anecdotally read that the trails may be accessible. I have a long weekend next weekend (May 9), and would take the long drive up to Maine if the carriage road trails are freely accessible. Hoping a local can chime in. Thanks

The week before their "season" began, I stayed here last summer, but after the black flies, there were no reservations and it was cash only. However, I enjoyed it. The National Park tickets is fantastic. Bar Harbor is a decent town that reminded me of northern Key West, Florida. traveled on a four-masted sailboat. They spotted three types of whales while on a cat-to-see excursion. Although expensive, both were worthwhile. Small eateries along the route are likely better and more affordable than the lobster in Bar Harbor, which is very overpriced. I'm not sure how fit or young you are, but mountain riding on the national park's carriage paths is the greatest. They have horse-drawn carriages for those who are not very fit. While some of the trails are steep, others are not. Because the trails are smooth and broad, a beach cruiser-style bike with low gears might be suitable. Unless it had Kevlar tires, I'm not sure if I would try a ten speed on the unpaved, crushed granite paths. Cadillac Mountain is a must-see, but it's an incredible experience to drive there for the sunset.
