$2000 and You Wanna Buy An eBike?

CodyDog, its a difficult choice. I actually just cancelled the Rize RX order a few hours ago and really want to order the Sondors Rockstar. Any thoughts or comments on Sondors bikes and customer service? Can you recommend a brand and model that LBS carries?

My big thing is the need for a throttle and bikes at LBS usually have low output motors, albeit high-quality and no throttles. As an example, a Trek does not have a throttle.

The Bosch CX motor is their top performance motor and I think the speed is restricted to 28mph and their is no throttle. Any thoughts or comments on that specific motor in relation to the Bafang Ultra Max?

here are my reasons:
1. I didn't like the EBR review saying that to use max throttle you need to be in PAS-5, which I, nor EBR, liked.
2. The motor sounded quite loud (I understand its 1500W but...)
3. The killer for me though was ultimately the poor welds in the frame. They look horrible and at $2600 that aesthetic issue would bug me everyday.

Any feedback is much appreciated!
I don't have any experience with the Sondors. I cant offer an opinion there.

I do like the Bosch CX motor and it gets raving reviews.

I have both a throttle and non throttle ebike. in the long run I prefer the bike without the throttle. My throttle bike has become more of my moped type ride. unfortunantly my throttle bike is a cadence sensing system with a hub drive. Not a big fan of hub drives.

Excellent point regarding the tariffs. I have the Surface 604 Shred on my list and they are coming out with a Quad priced at $2599. I am all over the place in terms of quality but here is my list on a $2500 budget but would prefer to be under $2000. I also included other brands for comments:

Sondors Rockstar - $2599
M2S R750 Integrated - $1799
Rize X - $1999
Rize RX - $2599
Rize - $1699
VoltBike Enduro - $2399
VoltBike Outback - $1799
Ride1Up 700 - $1495
Himiway Cruiser - $1399
Dost Kope - $2799
Volton Alation 500+ - $1949
Trek Alliant 7 or 8
Juiced
Biktrik
Eunorau
Haibike

Hi everyone,

Was looking at the Frey EX Pro as the best overall product you can buy at the $4,000 price point (I realize its double the budget discussed here) but was turned-off with the risk of buying from Alibaba, long wait times, and the added $800 delivery fee.

Trying to find other ebikes of Frey quality (full suspension, powerful motor, large battery, mid-drive, torque sensing, puncture resistant tires, etc) offered by USA Companies I found prices closer to $10,000 which is ridiculous for middle-class incomes (i.e., Trek Rail)

That left me with the question of what is the most capable full-suspension ebike that I can confidently buy in America at or below the $4,000 level. The ebike I am looking for should be good (but not necessarily great) for both commuting and trail riding. I did notice that Sondors is taking deposits for their new Rockstar (which looks great BTW at just under $3K) but I see many posts on the internet downplaying the possibility of Sondors bringing that bike to market at that price anytime soon.

Thanks guys, any tips much appreciated.

John, welcome to EBR! ;)

If you want a real full-suspension mountain bike with a mid-drive motor... take a look at BD and CL for some high value deals.

If you could camoflauge that obnoxius battery on the Rize it would look alot better. Between your 2 choices on just looks, The Rockstar is a 10 and the Rize is a 3...

Agree. The battery shouldn't look tacked on at this price point.

I'm waiting on a Sondors LX which is the fat tire mid-drive. Seems the Cruiser meets everything on your must haves at $1999 but that bike has a rigid fork (you did not specify suspension desires). The Rockstar is more expensive has most of what you want but just keep in mind it won't come with lights or a kickstand (because mtb generally don't come with kickstands). I'm not going to tell you what bike to buy because I personally don't have any first hand experience with most of these bikes. Good luck with your choice. Don't let it keep you up all night like it did me 👍

Taylor brought up a valid point about the Rockstar. The videos I have seen so far make it look very portly indeed. Hard to say in person. The color they keep showcasing just doesn't look good imho. The black or slate colors may do it some justice in the looks department.

the Rize RX and Biktrix Ultra have the most go power on your list! easy choice for me!

Those two and the Sondors Rockstar all have the same motor (Bafang M620). Granted, the Rockstar is limited by a 25 amp controller.
Yeah the rockstar peaks at just over 1100watts instead of 1500 like the Trix and Rize

I live in the foothills and strongly considered the Rockstar. It seems at 83lbs this will be unwieldy during descent here in Colorado.

My next choice is the HAL eBoost Elite. My only worry is the battery life. Can anyone speak to this? Has the battery been an issue for you? Have you considered upgrading or bought an extra battery? If you've bought an extra, how has that worked out for you? Is it annoying to carry? How far have you gone using both? Any drawbacks or things you'd wish you had known when you were in my shoes?

Also, I have seen the new 630wH battery from shimano. Will this fit on the eBoost elite?

Sure seems like a tremendous deal and so much fun!
