That was my concern with cable. Looks and feels great, (and enticingly light), but vulnerable to an axe attack. Thanks for your 'experiment'.

Hi, My wife and I were both police officers in the UK and I took early retirement to come here in 1998. We set up a charitable trust to provide conservation education for local schoolchildren, plus sponsorship to school and university. Next year I'll have been 'retired' as long as I worked! We...

Hi Indianajo, I contacted a large British company who make and supply wire cable to industry, and asked them if their 10mm stainless wire could be cut with an axe. They replied: Hi Steve, This is not something we can help you with, our wire rope is designed for lifting, and not for the purpose...

I'm certainly interested. I use the same courier in the US as I use in the UK, except they charge 50% more than UK to Zambia. I ordered 8.6kgs of a 8.2mm Pewag chain from the UK and they charged me over $130 to send it to Zambia!

P.S. You're right....there is no way you can ride on Tannus Armour once you have a puncture! I thought I'd try it when I had my first puncture and it was obvious that doing so would destroy the inner tube and/or the tyre.

I've just seen a very convincing test of FlatOut stopping even big holes quickly...and it never dries out. Shame they don't sell it in the UK (where I usually order things from).

I read that someone said the answer to punctures is: ‘Schwalbe Marathon Plus with Mr. Tuffy. I get a flat every 20,000 miles or so’. Or maybe Marathon Green Guards, but they look a bit slick?

I'm not going to be changing the Delite Rohloff.... I like the look of the Schwalbe Pick-up tyres...just a shame the offroad grip seems to be mediocre. However, lack of punctures is something worth considering. Before I got the Delite I bought a new Yamaha TW200 about 5 years ago. I love it...

There is a wonderful ethical company in the UK called 'Pragmasis'. They made the 'Protector' range of specially hardened chains, with noose links if required. I bought a 2.5 metre long noose chain with 11mm links from them (only for the owners to return my money after they read our webpage on...

Hi Indianajo, Depressing antics from the potential thieves. I wish I had something immovable to lock my bike to, but trees are the only thing. This baobab would take many kilos of chain or cable to keep the bike safe!

This is the German company I dealt with: https://www.steelropes24.com/wire-rope-sling-pvc-coated-with-loops?number=DS10049.106 I see that the wire I bought is 'galvanised'. I then saw that they also make a 10mm stainless cable...

Hi Indianajo. I was so pleased when I received the 2 cables from Germany, but I was shocked when a single axe blow cut the cable they were made from cleanly. When I asked McMasters if their cable could resist such an attack, they said 'We have no available information that indicates how the...

To answer your earlier point, I was told I could have ordered (and received) an HS version, as it was going to Zambia.

Funny you should say that. I contacted McMaster after seeing your (earlier) post and they refused to sell a cable to me, due to export rules and regs! I have a New York based courier who would deliver it the local airport here. This is what I told McMaster as why I wanted one (or more) of their...

Yes, but I understand it, the max. speed for e-bikes in the UK is 15.5mph, but in Europe it's higher...not sure by how much. The bike seller in the UK apologised to me for the person who dealt with me got it wrong. The bike was never to be used in the UK, and, after a few checks, it was sent out...

Hah, we actually have that saying on the wall of our Centre for the children to read. 'Douglas' the hippo was a male. Had he have been a she, perhaps 'she' might still be here. We love warthogs, but bush pigs are even more amazing. More tomorrow.... Best wishes, Steve
