    eeSilk or eeSilk+ ?

I ended up with the eeSilk+ mainly because a used one in mint condition appeared nearby. In reality the actual travel under load of course is not near the free unloaded 35 mm but rather 20-25 mm max, so I believe a non-plus version would have been too stiff for me anyway. A patch or crack in the...

Do I need a full face motorcycle helmet?

Yeah well, one can always wish. I was hoping that market demands would have impacted but apparently not. For mopeds and motorcycles the requirement is ECE22.05 or later revision. For bicycles there is no legal requirement passed age 15.

Do I need a full face motorcycle helmet?

It all comes down to risk assessment at an individual and situational level, imho. When I cycle around home, to a neighbor or whatever, at walking or jogging speed, I sometimes don't wear a helmet at all. When I commute at 25-28 mph, the potential outcome of a crash is something else. And it...

Do I need a full face motorcycle helmet?

Cool, I might use something like that for riding an electric moped of some sort. But for actually pedaling... not likely.

Do I need a full face motorcycle helmet?

Lifting this thread, wondering if there are any new FF bicycle helmets on the market that does not make you look like a Stormtrooper...? 😏

    TSDZ2 on Trek Marlin?

I am considering putting a TSDZ2 on a Trek Marlin (version not yet determined). Anyone here done just that, and/or can tell (not guess :) ) if it is a straight forward fit or needs any modification?

    eeSilk or eeSilk+ ?

I am about to treat myself with a suspension seat post for my commuting, and currently trying to decide between eeSilk and eeSilk+. Road is 17+17 miles of all tarmac/asphalt but with a little too many cracks, patches and such. Bike is a rigid 29" on 37 mm tires, with a Brooks B17 and my 210 lbs...

Input for long range commuter build?

Target was 40 km/h or 25 mph sustained (and, ideally, trip average) for 30+30 km and it does that. ;) Almost all my commuting route is paved, low traffic, smooth country road and fast cycling. But the last few km is dedicated bike lane/path, paved but for several reasons not fit for speed, and...

Input for long range commuter build?

So, to sum this thread up... :) This was the designated victim, a Cannondale of unverified model from somewhere around 2004-2006 afaik. Alloy frame, 28" wheels with SRAM hubs and 28-622 tires. Avid Juicy 3 hydraulic 160 mm disc brakes, SRAM X-7 3x9 gear, 11-34 cassette. Now with... BBSHD with...

    Charging connector Shark DP9

And no, mine (that I don't have) is not an ST3. But as Grin has adopted them, and my charger only has a coax DC plug anyway, I would be happy to use ST3 rather than whatever it is that the seller should have used.

    Charging connector Shark DP9

Great, I contacted them already and waiting for reply. Didn't look close enough in their webshop... Not matching charger so I need cable connector too.

    Charging connector Shark DP9

The assembler/seller of my battery mistakenly installed a common round DC-jack (max 2 A) for charging, instead of the promised 3-pin jack rated for 6 A. Their two year warranty seems of little value since they stopped communicating entirely, so if I want a higher rated connector - which I do - I...

    Lower tires...?

My bike has tight clearance between frame and tires, and going from 28-622 road slicks to 40-622 Schwalbe Energizer Plus Tour proved problematic. I can not fit fenders between tire and frame but can DIY a split fender setup that sort of works, but still the tire pressure is quite limited. I...

Input for long range commuter build?

Interesting suggestions, I will most certainly consider all of them! 👍:)

Input for long range commuter build?

That front fender could work on mine, and possibly a second one (or if they come in other shapes) behind the fork. Will look into that, thanks. As for the offset, right now chain line is pretty straight onto the 8th gear (of 9) and it seems like I will be using 9th gear for almost all of the...

Input for long range commuter build?

The 1,5" tires being quite a bit higher than the previous 28 mm means a tighter fit than I expected. The fork center tube could be filed a bit for clearance but rear is trickier, thinking of putting 2-3 mm spacers in the bottom of the frame U-slots to set the axle more shallow. There is more...

Input for long range commuter build?

There, first test run completed and pretty much everything behaves as expected. Gearing may take a bit of tweaking to get right, with stock 46 chain ring cadence starts to get uncomfortable around 45 kmh / 28 mph - but then again I am profoundly out of shape atm and I can live with 25 mph for a...

    BBSHD chain ring guard?

My BBSHD, as I suppose all others, came without any chain ring guard/cover. What do people put on their stock BBSHD chain rings - or are chain ring guards a thing of the past?

Input for long range commuter build?

Yes, I agree. What is holding my hopes up is that there are actually no hills of significance, no stop signs, no lights, barely any traffic. It is rural and pretty flat. I expect a bit of headwind now and then, that's it. I start pedaling at home and stop some 30 km later at work, and intend to...

I like those, looks better than metal hose clamps too.
