What kind of e-bikes do thieves prefer?

I have mine in my garage when not riding them. I still use a cable lock in the garage and lock both together. I live in a relatively crime free neighborhood but there's times when my garage doors open and I'm in the backyard. Wouldn't take but a few seconds for some nothead walking by to walk up...

Class 3 is legal in many states and unlimited is legal on private and approved trails

True but the trails for biking or hiking that are posted with No Motor Vehicles Allowed signs are not Ebike approved. BLM classifies Ebikes as motor vehicles whereas here in Oregon Ebikes are classified as bikes. I'm not really into mixing it up with ATV's and dune buggies on trails with my Ebike.

Class 3 is legal in many states and unlimited is legal on private and approved trails

The state laws are fine until the BLM is involved. Ebikes are classified differently by each. Just because a state says it's okay to ride on trails doesn't mean you can ride on all trails. If the trail in on BLM land then ebikes are not allowed on the trail. Too many variables to make any of it...

    Clunking feeling.

Both my wife's Shred and mine have a clunk feeling in 6th gear. It feels like a tooth on the cassette is bent or something to that effect. I've looked real hard at both cassettes and see nothing out of the ordinary. You can't feel it when the bikes on the bike stand. Only when out riding. We are...

    Shred chain falling off.

Update; I put some graphite front sprocket chain stays on and they worked great. Finished up 7 days of riding semi bumpy roads, bumpy trails and washboard gravel roads and neither chain fell off. Wish Surface 604 would just put two sided chain stays on like Aventen or Himiway does.

    Shred chain falling off.

Anyone else have an issue with their chain falling off the front chain ring? We own two Shreds and my wifes has fallen off the front chain ring 3-4 times and mine 2-3 times. Chains are cleaned and lubed and the bikes only have 400-450 miles on them. 1st several times my wifes chain fell off we...

Cell battery technology set to jump again-driven by another industry

Whats going to happen with all those batteries for all those tools and everything else battery related? If every state had ICE bans on small ICE tools then there'd be a massive amount of old batteries to get rid of.

    Confusion on trail rules?

We bought some ebikes last Oct or so and finally got out to some camping spots we go to this last week. I was reading about a hike/bike trail out near Biggs Junction that according to one blogger was not ebike friendly. IOW's not allowed. Well being March and very few people out like there would...

Bike lock for a city that's not very bike friendly

He's also hitting it as it's sits on something solid. He may not get that if the lock is just hanging off the bike and what ever it's locked too.

E-BIKE SPEED RESTRICTIONS (AGREE OR DISAGREE )

I would rather see speed restrictions vs class restrictions or total bans. I see it like autos. You can own a Corvette or a Yugo but you can only go the posted speed limit. Rather than denying ebikes access for presumed reasons why not regulate all bikes so everyone is on the same playing field...

Got into my first ever bike accident

I rode MC's for 12 straight years. Put well over 70,000 total miles on various motorcycles in that span. I quit in 2009. Had enough of people texting, talking on phones and maybe running into me. As defensive as I was it just wasn't fun anymore always being overly defensive. Got into bike...

Why Container Ships Can’t Sail Around the California Ports Bottleneck

Sitting home waiting for employers to pay more $$$. Unless you're in a union you have no bargaining rights. Sitting home is their way of bargaining. Interestingly Fed unemployment aide ran out Sept 4th yet some still think it's being paid.

Why Container Ships Can’t Sail Around the California Ports Bottleneck

But they don't. No more extra money. Truck drivers were quitting well before Covid hit. https://cdllife.com/2018/study-looks-truckers-quit-jobs-within-first-four-months/ https://www.smart-trucking.com/truck-driver-shortage/

Why Container Ships Can’t Sail Around the California Ports Bottleneck

So lets sit back and do nothing. Oh wait we did that last time. Time to unionize the trucking industry. Make wages worth the job. There'll be people lining up for miles to drive trucks for good pay.

    Class sticker?

Right now according to BLM any trail closed to motorized vehicles is closed to ebikes unless the district manager declares it open. Of course you wouldn't know that unless a sign says ebikes okay. No sign then no go. It sorta sucks living in BLM country where almost every trail is on BLM land. I...

    Class sticker?

Some of the rails to trails we're interested in riding are class 1 only. Not owning an ebike yet I'm just wondering how this rule is enforced? If the bike has no sticker is it just the word of the bike rider vs the person asking?

    Class sticker?

For you 604 Shred owners, is there a class sticker on the bike? I've only seen pics and videos of them and have never seen the class 3 sticker anywhere on it.

Why Container Ships Can’t Sail Around the California Ports Bottleneck

Yes exc article. I was recently camping at an Oregon St park and got to BS'ing with one of the hosts. He used to drive truck until 5 years ago. He said it was brutal near the end. Always away from home and dispatchers treated drivers terribly. He said they used to let drivers sleep in the yards...

    Newbie looking for 1st E-Bike.

Actually our Giants (Talon-Liv) have decent Acera derailleurs and Tektro hydraulic disks. Never had a brake issue and the shimano's have been pretty reliable with only a couple tweaks every year. Spokes are 14g so thats iffy. But again we're not jumping and we are on the light side. not sold on...
