Anyone been "busted" riding a Class 3 bike?

I ride on the C&O all the time and nobody has ever said anything other than "cool bike." I think the key is to be respectful, give plenty of warning if you are going to pass and don't ride like a loon.

    cracked cranks are fun.

I just upgraded my square taper cranks ony BBSHD. The stock ones had rounded out and would not stay tight. I definitely haven't ever cracked one though!

Anyone been "busted" riding a Class 3 bike?

Ebikes are specifically excluded from the definition of a motorized vehicle in the state of New York. "E-bikes have the same rights and duties as pedal-bike riders, and e-bikes are excluded from the definition of motor vehicle. E-bikes can be ridden on roads with speed limits of 30 mph or...

Anyone been "busted" riding a Class 3 bike?

I ride in and around Washington, DC and points west and north. I simply can't imagine anyone caring enough about my bicycle to stop me and question it's legality.

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

I have never logged a ride in any format other than a few pictures and whatever stats my display shows. What is the benefit? Is it just to have a record of the ride? To compare times? Keep tabs on distance? What do you do with the data? I read about Strava and similar apps and I just don't...

    Waxing chain on a bafang?

Here is another life/relationship tip: don't use the dishwasher to clean car parts. The parts get very clean and the partner gets very angry.

    Waxing chain on a bafang?

Essentially, yes. I ride on a lot of gravel so I do a deep clean with dish soap and water every 3-4 weeks using a cheap chain cleaning tool from Amazon (like a Park chain cleaner, but priced for regular folks). I wish the lube lasted a bit longer, but I seem to need to apply every 60-80 miles ...

    Waxing chain on a bafang?

I run a dry wax lube which I have to reapply every 60 miles (100km) or so or when I can hear the chain. I use T-9 Boeshield. I would think that if you are hearing the chain it needs to be lubed.

    BBSHD with an IGH?

Me too! I don't like going that fast. I am more of a 15-18mph PAS 2 (125 watts) kind of guy. If I'm feeling frisky I'll bump it up to PAS 3 (225 watts) and do 19-22.

    BBSHD with an IGH?

I have not really had to adjust the hub for any reason other than when I replaced the chain. I have accidentally hit the adjuster at the shifter, but getting it set is as simple as lining up the three dots. Once you learn how to time the shifts it's pretty simple. And if you find yourself in...

Frame Bags for Battery and Wire Management.

I have an 8ah Bicycle Motor Works battery inside this extra large 1/2 frame bag from Oveja Negra. I ran an extension cable through the hydration port and down to the motor. Works great.

    BBSHD with an IGH?

My bike has a Nexus 8 hub and has been flawless. Just program the BBSHD to bring the power in slowly and you will be fine. In 1300 miles I have had no issues.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

This setup includes two batteries - the large Luna Wolf which is 12ah and a smaller 8ah battery in the frame bag. In pedal assist 3 (225 watts max) I have about 75 miles of range. In PAS 2 (125 watts max) it is closer to 90.

    E Bike rack Reccomendation

I use a Yakima HighRoad roof rack - rated for 45 pounds for my 50 pound bike. I have to remove the battery and anything else before I load it up. It feels solid and I have not had any issues. 1up also makes a single rack for bikes up to 75 pounds. It appears to be out of stock at the...
