Those SQL handles look really good - also useful for protecting the other handlebar accessories when you turn the bike over for repair/cleaning!

Battery Range Experience for Specialized E-Bikes

I have range anxiety most days, and I’m not even rechargeable!

Battery Range Experience for Specialized E-Bikes

Stefan - you are right of course, as usual. However, for me the exceptional thing for us about these bikes is the confidence it gives us to do rides we wouldn’t otherwise do, knowing that we have assistance/support when needed.

Battery Range Experience for Specialized E-Bikes

PS - what I should have remembered to add was that we dis-connected the lights a few years ago. Some calculations which Stefan M kindly did for me showed that the lights use around 4% of the battery capacity every hour, with the management system using around 1%. It doesn’t matter for Stefan...

Battery Range Experience for Specialized E-Bikes

The range with the Turbo Vado SL models (my wife and I have a 4eq and a 5eq, both 2020 models) is amazing if you’re (1) not in a rush, and (2) willing to do a lot of the easy riding without power. Two weeks ago we did our first 2 night/3 day mini tour in the south of Spain. In the 3 days we...

TCU warranty only 2 years on the Vado SL

I had the TCU failure issue described here a few years back, but there were no warning lights at all. The bike simply worked one day, and then the next day nothing happened - no lights, no power. I took it to the shop, who told me the button battery was flat, and replaced it. I’ve had no further...

Yes - it’s idiot proof. Even I could do it!

    Wiring Diagram Vado SL ?

Stefan, More info and better photos! Plugs are coloured, so you can happily separate them and reconnect them (unless colour-blind of course!). Please see photos. Regards Steve

    Wiring Diagram Vado SL ?

Sorry for the delay, and my amateurish photos! the plug with the green bits on is the lighting power supply. It will be connected in between one of the other two all-black cable connectors, so one will be much longer, and will have a “Y” shaped connection. You just pull the longer plug apart...

Will do - once the grandchildren leave!

    Wiring Diagram Vado SL ?

if you want the lights off on a permanent basis you can simply unplug them. To do this, unscrew the control unit and lift it out of the cross-bar. You will see a cable coming from the front which joins another cable, also coming from the front, at an angle, before the combined cables are plugged...

How to turn off Specialized Turbo Vado SL EQ Lights?

PS - there is a lot of leg power, but I think it’s mostly because normally we don’t care how slowly we go, and so can just grind on in bottom gear for mile if need be! Over that climb and distance we had to change tactics!

How to turn off Specialized Turbo Vado SL EQ Lights?

Stefan, You combine a clear understanding of what is going on with the ability to present technical information in a way that even I, a bean-counter, can understand. Well… almost! Thank you, it’s always a pleasure exchanging messages and information with you. Regards, Steve

How to turn off Specialized Turbo Vado SL EQ Lights?

Sorry Stefan - I realise that stage 2 probably isn’t needed, as the rest of the system shouldn’t be doing anything? Regards, Steve

How to turn off Specialized Turbo Vado SL EQ Lights?

Wow - Stefan, that is clever! Well done and thank you very much. I’m not asking you to do this, but I suppose that doing the same with the lights disconnected would show how much power is used hourly by the rest of the system? We did a 100km ride yesterday with 2,200 metres of ascent. That’s...

How to turn off Specialized Turbo Vado SL EQ Lights?

Of course, what I missed completely is that the lights are only part of the “system drain” - it could be whatever else is being used to run system which uses most of the power, and not the lights. It would be very useful if you could prove it logically - thank you.

How to turn off Specialized Turbo Vado SL EQ Lights?

I think my intermittent problem was probably caused by stone getting stuck in the mudguards, but that’s only an idea.
