Choosing efficient clothing for your bike tour

I switched to XOfficio boxer briefs several years ago. I wear them daily, including on rides and hikes. I never have chaffing. I like the 6 inch ones, but they also come in 3 and 9 inch. As for shorts, I burn easily, so I always wear pants and a long sleeve shirt.

    Trike transport and rail trails

I have several pics, but haven't done anything with them yet. I'm going to put together a web page eventually. GAP stands for Great Allegheny Passage, a former rail line through the Allegheny Mountains. If you're back that way to do the GAP, you may as well do the MD/PA rail trail. You could...

Choosing efficient clothing for your bike tour

Having recently completed a tour, I took the lightweight backpacking clothing and cooking gear that I already had. I did buy some Gore cycling overboots just for the trip. I only used them once. I also added flip flops, mostly for shower shoes.

ICE 20 Adventure- Keep Slipping forward in Web Seat

I haven't been on here in a while, so here is my late reply. I have the same trike, and had the same issue. If you loosen the lower seat straps a bit, your butt has more of a pocket, and you won't slip nearly as much. I still slip a bit, but every so often, a push on the pedals is enough to...

    Trike transport and rail trails

Having just recently completed a tour on my ICE Adventure, I thought I'd add my experience. First, I rode from Omaha, NE to Moline, IN. The bike trails in Omaha and Council Bluffs are good. You then ride the roads for quite a ways, until you get to the center of Iowa, where the rail trails are...

    New Bafang ebike

I went for a hike today at Spooner Lake State Park (NV), about Noon. On the North side of the lake, near the trail that heads North to Marlette Lake, I saw a group doing a professional photo shoot. The subject was a young guy on an ebike. Being curious, I walked over, and when they took a break...

Opinions on the best compromise?..(lightweight small manageable folding ebike)

Funny you should mention Bike Friday. I ordered one in mid-January. I got an email three days ago, saying it was ready. The problem is, I'm away at work, and won't be home for two more weeks. I ordered a New World Tourist Silk, which has 20" wheels. Silk is the NWT variant with a Gates belt...

    Thoughts Of An Experienced E-Biker

I've added a rear, flashing red light to my ebikes and etrike. It also is a horn and motion alarm. Found it on Amazon. I think that the flashing gets more notice than a solid red, assuming that the driver is watching the road at all.

    Ebike bumper stickers

I want a flag for my recumbent trike that says, "This is my low rider". I also bought those GPS stickers on Amazon.

PSA: Vendors must provide replacement parts for sale for e-bikes sold to customers in California, for 7 years

I registered my ICE trike to get the ten year warranty. Yes, I know that the Shimano motor and battery are less than ten years, but I would think that ICE will be able to provide replacement parts for many years. If the motor holds up, but the battery dies, I can always have it rebuilt. Worst...

    Looking for best fit.

In the last three years, I have gone through three different ebikes (still have the last two). At the end of September, I received a recumbent trike (ordered it in June). I absolutely love it. It is so much more comfortable, that I can enjoy riding much further. With the trike, I typically ride...

Inexpensive insurance option for State Farm policyholders

About a year ago, I asked my SF agent about ebike coverage. I have auto and renter's policies, and have been with SF since 1985. I was told no, and no. Recently, I happened to be talking to a Farmers agent, and I asked him about ebikes. He looked into it and told me that he could cover...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

Yes, I've also noticed that I am not affected by wind nearly as much as on a bike. Some days on the bike, I was fighting a headwind. On the recumbent trike, I hardly notice the wind.

How many miles have you travelled on the e-bike(s) that you currently own?

Although I bought my first ebike about two years ago, most of my mileage has been in the past five months. In that time, I have about 1000 miles on the ebike, and in the past two months, 850 miles on the etrike. I enjoy riding the recumbent etrike more.

What Precautions do You Take When Riding in Remote Locations?

I always carry my phone, a spare inner tube, tube repair kit, pump and tools, as well as a FIBERFIX Emergency Spoke Replacement Kit. On my person, I always have my wallet, a knife, multitool, flashlight and bandana. On some local rides, I'll take a small pepper gel spray for vicious dogs or...

    ebike rental in Italy

I may make a trip to Italy next year, and was looking online for ebike rentals. I only found a few sites that listed pricing, but it seems very high. Looking at various online sources, it seems that I can rent a car for as little as 15-20 euros per day, while an ebike is at least 2-3 times as...

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

This was from two weeks ago, about 11am. I was riding a residential part of town, near a city park. I've seem them here before, so it must be a regular hangout. There was a fourth, but it walked across the road before I could get my phone out.

Startling pedestrians can be so much fun.

I hadn't seen/heard that podcast, but would agree that my mood is improved by the little interactions. Of course, the cycling itself makes me feel good, too. Actually, the part that makes me feel really good, is when I interact with a friendly dog :) I love dogs, but can't have one, due to my...

Opinions on the best compromise?..(lightweight small manageable folding ebike)

That's more expensive than a Gocycle, which is made in England. When you first setup the ebike with the app, you are asked whether to set it to EU or US regulations. I just looked at the specs. It is quite a bit lighter than a Gocycle, but the battery capacity is half. I doesn't look like a...

Opinions on the best compromise?..(lightweight small manageable folding ebike)

I love my Gocycle GX. I got it for $3000. If you can find a used GX, that might be a good choice for you. The Gocycle's have 20 inch tires. Personally, I wouldn't go with anything smaller. The bike weighs 38 lbs, and folds small. The enclosed chain drive means no mess, and no pants caught in a...
