On the Volspeed website it says the chip is completely waterproof. (its potted). So you shouldn't have to worry about it getting wet. You could mount it outside the compartment but I'd be worry about something snagging on it and pulling the wires out. Personally I'd drop the motor down...

Looks like you may have to drop the motor down and push the chip up inside a cavity inside the frame, leaving just the wires accessible to connect.

I'd have guessed the stator too. If you take the cover off the side you might be able to see if your coils are burnt out/discoloured. If so that's probably the cause of your power loss.

Depends on how big the hole is! :D Although I've never had much of a mess. Wipe clean and patch it, good to go. You don't want to put too much Slime in or you'll knock your wheel balance out. You really want just enough to coat the inside of your tube and little more.
