Playing with Mission Control makes it feel like a new bike

One thing to know about Smart Control - "Climb Response" is a value (0, 75, 150 ft) that you tell the computer you want it to wait before giving you "hill" assist. In other words, set to 75ft, it will ignore elevation gains that don't climb above 75 feet, and keep the assist as if you were...

    Connecting Vado 5.0 with Garmin

Are you trying to get the BLE data from the bike computer onto the display of the watch/computer? I think I've done that with the power-meter of the Vado 4.0 onto my Garmin Fenix 3. Just turn the bike on and then search for Bluetooth sensors, and there it was...

A good use of Vado Turbo Mode

    Great story 👍👍

    Pedals for Vado

I have swapped them out. It’s just as easy as a regular bike. I am using some old pair of Shimano sdp/flat combo pedals.

Vado 4.0 LTD - very capable "gravel" e-bike as well as commuter

I agree. On turns at speed, I try to slow WAY down and early...those bikes really like to push through the gravel in straight lines regardless of the way the tire is turned.

Vado 4.0 LTD (2020), now sometimes says “no battery” when riding

So today I was out riding and almost right away on pavement the display shows “no battery” and the battery level bars on the left were gone. It seemed as if the bike was “surging” somewhat in its assist and the changes from eco to sport to turbo didn’t affect anything. I turned around and...

Vado 4.0 LTD - very capable "gravel" e-bike as well as commuter

Yes - Rocky Flats. I didn’t even check if there was any notice about ebikes. It’s Jeffco vs Boulder so maybe they’re more lenient. I do know there’s an “no ebike” trail marker on coalton trail (right off 128 trailhead) but not on the meadowlark / mayhoffer trails . And I ride my Vado on those...

Vado 4.0 LTD - very capable "gravel" e-bike as well as commuter

I know it's not even classified as a "gravel" bike, but where I live (near Boulder, CO), there are many trails (mostly fire-roads and wide gravel trails, but some thinner, smooth-ish single-track) that I've ridden on in the two weeks that I've owned the Vado 4.0 LTD. This version has the...

Smart Control or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying (and Love My Vado)

Yeah, you're right. I was taking a swag. Looking back at the same ride from last year, it was 15mph avg vs 20mph, so a 33% increase. Not 100% :)

Smart Control or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying (and Love My Vado)

I just wanted to show a real-world Smart Control-affected ride from today. The settings I used are shown in the picture. Using RidewithGPS I plotted a 25 mile course and saw that it had appx 1700 ft elevation gain. So I used the settings show, and didn't care about the battery left over. I...

Smart Control or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying (and Love My Vado)

I too have noticed that the hill response is fairly underperforming. My hill response is also set to 0 ft and yet I struggle up my rather steep hills without any seeming boost in assist during the hills. I can override the SC by hitting the turbo mode key (clicking up one on the handlebar...

Topeak EXP Bag on Vado 4.0 Rack?

Thank you. I know how to fit the bag on the rack with the MTX adapter. What I was really after was whether the built in panniers on the specific bag I referenced would be able to strap down and be secured on the default rack systems rack. The tie downs on the bags seem to be a bit long for...

Topeak EXP Bag on Vado 4.0 Rack?

Looking to get a commute bag, and the Topeak EXP seems like it would be a good fit for my needs. It is the model with the pannier bags that unzip and hang down. I know you can get an "MTX" adapter for the Racktime rack to fit the sliding lock mechanism, but I was curious about the hanging...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 EQ 1st Ride Review

I’m guessing it’s too late, but I ordered directly from Specialized’s website for my Vado 4.0 LTD. They shipped it to the lbs and from order to delivery it was 10 days. Late summer seems really far out there. Maybe because you ordered the 5.0 SL and that’s more in-demand?

Trying to decide: Vado 4.0 vs 5.0 (US market)

I went with the 4.0 LTD. I do need a bigger chain ring in front, since even though I'm on a lot of hills and gravel around here, I do find myself in the 11 or 12 rear cog almost all the time. The 4.0 has the 40t and the 5.0 has the 48t. I haven't missed the lighter torque (yet). There are...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

No problem asking at all. The difference was *only* $250US, and it was available, as opposed to the XL Vado 4.0 (back-ordered). In addition, I had ridden the Vado 4.0 and felt some of the bumps and cracks on roads around the lbs, and knowing my neighborhood was replete with large cracks, the...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

So I just picked up my Vado 4.0 LTD from the LBS yesterday. The yellow one with the "suspension" seatpost and 50's on the rims. Here are a couple of thoughts in no particular order: I ordered on June 5th from Specialized and the bike was ready in Boulder, CO at the LBS on the 15th. Not bad...

Vado 4.0 vs. Vado 4.0 SL EQ (I've owned both)

I test rode a 5.0 SL, and I'm about 6'3" (maybe 6'2.5"), 200lbs and a 35"-ish inseam. I rode the SL XL and found that with the seat post raised up to "7", my fit on that bike was perfect. Very aggressive and gravel-y. If I wanted to be more "comfortable" (ie, commuting), I would expect that...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 EQ-My 2 cents

Yes - the Vado (not SL) is the "4X you" and the Vado SL is the "2X you". I've test-ridden both and the power difference is night and day, especially on hills (obviously). My opinion: For gravel trails and less hilly commutes - the SL would be perfect. It can tackle both with ease. I ride a...

Trying to decide: Vado 4.0 vs 5.0 (US market)

Well, I pulled the trigger on the 4.0 Ltd Edition. It should be a couple of weeks until it arrives and when it does I’ll post some pics and first impressions. Thanks again for the input (and especially the notice about the Ltd version)
