Firmware Updates for Vado 4 (2021)

I thought that might be the case, but was hoping otherwise :(.

Firmware Updates for Vado 4 (2021)

Hello Stefan, with the old app I could see the firmware version of all the components (display, battery and motor), which meant I could check if any of them had been updated at the service. Is this information not available to users now?

Firmware Updates for Vado 4 (2021)

I am about to take my Vado to the LBS for its annual service, and wanted to check the firmware levels, only to discover the (to me) new app does not seem to give those. Am I doing something wrong?

2021 Vado 4 Axle torque question.

I think that idea has legs :). Have you ever had to change a tyre on the road?

2021 Vado 4 Axle torque question.

Many thanks for posting the settings - much appreciated :) . Like you, I will be checking regularly now. Not a very pleasant experience - two motorists gave me a hand to get off the road.

2021 Vado 4 Axle torque question.

I had the rear axle come loose today, and luckily I was not moving fast - skinned knee and bruised shoulder. I will be checking this before I go out each time from now on, but does anyone know the correct torque that should be used. Checking around, there seems to be a debate about whether it...

    Motor Error

About 6 months ago I had my Vado replaced under warranty with a 2021 model. No motor errors seen till 3 weeks ago when, just like you, it failed on a short steep section. Restarted without a problem, but the gremlin, if there is one, is still around. If it happens again, I will reach for the...

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

Just an update to what transpired in my case, the specialist wheel builder could not get hold of the hub we selected - supply difficulties :(. He is held up on several jobs, with deliveries quoted as September/October.. Fortunately, DT Swiss has just brought out a range of wheels for ebikes...

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

Sorry, I should have been clearer - the Vado 4 2021 model has 32h wheels. I have a hybrid model because I had a replacement bike after my 2019 model frame cracked. If you check the specification of the 2021 model, you can see what I mean. I say hybrid, as the LBS moved everything from my old...

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

I have decided to have a new wheel made - bit the bullet :). Rattling around the forum using more general search terms, I have discovered that $300 is a fair price, and that Specialized now puts 32h wheels on this model. I wish I had know this 3 months ago, but hey, ho.

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

I've been quoted around $300 for a wheel build, with the hub just over half the cost. I don't know what a Specialized wheel would cost, as I cannot see the spare parts list anywhere. The LBS thought that silver spokes instead of black ones on my present wheel might be quite a bit stronger, and...

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

It is the heavy Vado. I have the 604 battery and carry a full toolkit when out riding. I am certain that it is the kerbs which are causing the problem, as I feel and hear quite a thump when I drop off them. I cannot avoid them where I live, unless I take my life in my hands and take to the...

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

It is not something that I do, I'm afraid - I leave that to the LBS, who are repairing the spokes as they break. I should have said that my wheels are 2019 though the bike is 2021 - long story :).

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

Many thanks for the quick reply with the link - the Vado 4 I have has a hub with 12x148mm thru-axle, 28h. I am taking in the wheel to have a new spoke fitted and will ask the LBS for a price - I would like to check if I can source the wheel myself, as a reference point.

Replacement rear wheel for Vado 4

I am breaking a rear wheel spoke about every 3 months, and I think it is a combination of bike weight, human weight (200lbs), and the fact that I am riding on cycleways a lot (ie) climbing up, and dropping off, small kerbs. Whatever the reason, I am considering replacing it with a 32h or 36h...

Got to keep on your toes or cleats when you can't release!

The great thing about these shoes is that you can walk about normally - I used to park up my "mechanical" bike and go into the shops, the bank etc. The only problem with an ebike is that you really don't want to be separated from it - too attractive. These are the pedals I have, and you can...

Got to keep on your toes or cleats when you can't release!

When the mechanic worked on my bike, he took the first crank off and looked at the inside face. I asked him if it was marked, and he said it was. He shook his head a bit at the error . I have the Shimano pedals with SPD on one side and flat on the other. I've actually had the RH crank...

Got to keep on your toes or cleats when you can't release!

When I had my Vado 4 replaced recently (broken frame), exactly the same thing happened (ie) the cranks were reversed. This happened because all the components on my old bike were switched to the new one. The mechanic was really, really embarrassed when I identified the error. Luckily I could...

Fitting an additional rear light to a Turbo Vado 4

I decided to launch in to my version of the rear light bracket, having being stimulated by the responses above. I made it up with a piece of 3mm aluminium and then turned a piece of hardwood to the same diameter as a seat post. I decided to go this way as there are a large number of lights and...

@ Timpo - the rack shape is exactly as in your photo - and you have given me some new ideas :). Many thanks.
