Oh no, front derailleur was removed.

I may eventually do this since the motor anti-rotation bracket didn't fit my frame and I just have a blob of rubber between the motor and downtube keeping the motor housing from crushing that cable. If that cable wasn't there, it wouldn't matter. There is a welded stay at the top of the downtube...

I had the same issue with the speed sensor. I just rotated it downward on the chainstay to increase the gap and that eliminated the insane behavior of the controller. Interesting that disconnecting it works too, but I do want the speed readout on the display as I removed my old cyclometer due to...

Updated Rooks and Colts being shipped soon

I ordered the bike back in May, and I don't recall a battery option at that time. But my wife doesn't do long rides anyway, so I don't need it. Good to know, though.

The battery form is identical. The lower frame bar is the same squared-off design, though the battery mounts lower down on it. I read on here somewhere that the battery (capacity/range) itself may have been improved, but I couldn't say.

TongSheng 500W Conversion on 2004 Giant Cypress LX

My first e-bike was a Surface 604 Colt, which I absolutely loved (and now my neighbor does!). But I should have researched motor kits before buying it as I had a custom-fitted 2004 Giant Cypress LX hybrid I love that was just sitting there being ignored. So I did some research (you know, modern...

Updated Rooks and Colts being shipped soon

The grips are definitely the same shape, but now leather (or leatherette) covered, stitching and all. I think the handlebars are the same, but I can't be certain since I sold my Colt to a friend after converting my old Giant. Derailleur and brakes are the same.

    Clicking noise on Colt 604

Gordon said since the bike is still under warranty, take it somewhere that will replace it, send him the bill and they'll cover it. Hoping that applies to anyone who bought one of their bikes. Good luck!

Surface will send you a new freehub if you just ask. They sent me one.

Those are the first things I removed, before ever riding the bike.

Hello from Everywhere! Friends and Visits?

If you really love that old Raleigh, why not consider converting it to an e-bike? There are reasonably-priced mid-drive kits from Bafang and TongSheng (check Amazon). Or you could replace the rear wheel with a hub-drive wheel, but that's probably more complicated. If you're more in the "buy and...

    Clicking noise on Colt 604

Clicking is back on mine as well. Previously, tightening loose spokes quieted the noise, but additional adjustments seem to have no affect. I still think it's the spokes, but perhaps this is just a nuance of the wheel design? Getting a lot of looks and compliments on the bike lately. :)

    Clicking noise on Colt 604

I tightened the spokes on my rear wheel that were very obviously too loose. Did it by feel; squeezed them in pairs and tried to get about the same tension on both and so there was almost no bending with a minor squeeze. The wheel is no longer perfectly true, but the clicking noise is GONE. So...

    Clicking noise on Colt 604

How do we check for those? Where is the torque sensor?

    Clicking noise on Colt 604

Mine is a brand new bike. I'd only put about 50 miles on it on smooth paved roads when the clicking began. If it's the chain (which I doubt), it must be a pretty crappy chain. It's also present whether or not I'm pedalling. If tightening spokes doesn't cure it, I'll be at a loss what to do next...

My spoke wrench arrives today, so I'll let you know if I have any better luck.

    Clicking noise on Colt 604

I think i figured it out, at least on my bike. The rear wheel spokes cross and bend each other. If they aren't tight enough, the looser ones flex and rub against the others. The clicking noise is from stiction and the loose spokes flicking as the wheel flexes under the rider's weight. I hear two...

Known Issues & Problems with Surface 604 Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Contacted Gordon at Surface 604 and without too much resistance he shipped me a new freehub (free) and said to have it installed locally, provide them the receipt, and they will reimburse me. I just hope he doesn't mean put a credit on my "account" because I already paid for my wife's Rook (and...

    Looking for New Ebike

I ordered one for my wife and have to wait until August to get it. If you don't get feedback before then, I'll ask her for her impression after a couple outings.
