Explore E+1 - free play in front suspension fork

interesting - the fork I have is an RST Pulse Air - the Giant store where I bought the bike will take a look and submit a warranty claim to RST - so perhaps that will address it - but I will keep in mind a replacement if that does not work out TBH I was thinking about swapping it out for a...

Explore E+1 - free play in front suspension fork

Thanks for the suggestions - to be clear, it’s NOT the headset bearings - the free play is absolutely in the stanchions into the lower tubes of the suspension. There is no detectable free play in the headset.

Explore E+1 - free play in front suspension fork

This is my first bike with front suspension so not sure if it’s normal. But I noticed some free play in the front fork today. Eg if I hold the front brake clamped and then rock the bike front and back, I can feel the play where the stanchions go into the lower parts of the fork. It’s not...

    Problem with latest firmware update

Thanks - figured that. I have an Explore E+1 GTS as well. Looks like it’s time to haul out the DMM and track where things are going awry. Yes, I recall that thread now that you mention it.

    Problem with latest firmware update

LOL - I installed the new FW back in May but just found this “feature” last night when I tried to go for an evening ride (to see comet Neowise). I thought I had a wiring problem for a while, then discovered this new behavior. BUT - my tail light won’t come on at all no matter what I try - so...

Clipless pedals on Explore E+ 1

Curious if anyone has put clipless pedals on their Explore E+ bike ? I’ve got an E+1 GTS and while I can just crank the assist and enjoy the ride, when I do want to do a little more myself, wondering if clipless pedals would be better.

Widespread Giant motor creaking problem - time for a recall?

I had a significant noise that went away when the Giant bike shop removed and re-installed the mounting bolts (along the lines of what Ukeedog has been saying). Then I thought it was coming back (but sounded a little different) on the past few rides until I noticed that my suspension seat post...

Thanks for taking the initiative to call them ! This is helpful.

Car carrier advice for Explore E+ 1

The angle of the arm should be fine for front wheel (the fender is quite short at front) - I am indeed less certain of back but the fender is quite rigid where it attaches to the panier rack, so ... … my thought is that with their accessory called a "fender saver" (basically its a foamy over...

Car carrier advice for Explore E+ 1

LOL - looking at the product pages I had exact same thought - but there are plenty of videos and images on the web if you look elsewhere - I found this one which shows it pretty well. There are a pair of arms that pivot up from each end of the trays and each pair of arms has a (movable) cross...

Car carrier advice for Explore E+ 1

Car carrier advice for Explore E+ 1

I am leaning towards the 1up - there is a "fender saver" accessory which I think should be workable if I can position it right where the fender is supported by the panier rack (where things are pretty stiff) How do you like the 1up ? Any issues or concerns with it ?

Car carrier advice for Explore E+ 1

Thanks - that's one feature I do like about the Thule - it comes with a ramp that makes loading heavy bikes manageable. The 1up racks really look bullet proof and DIY repairable and, I think, a little cheaper - but the way they work, you can't really use a ramp to load the bike - you need to...

Widespread Giant motor creaking problem - time for a recall?

Remove and reinstall - sorry for the jargon. Did you apply lubricant (moly paste / lithium grease) to the threads of the fasteners or just where they pass through clearance holes ? (I haven't taken mine apart yet so not entirely clear how things are fastened) If you did apply lubricant to...

Car carrier advice for Explore E+ 1

I have an Explore E+ 1 and am looking for a hitch mount car carrier (bike rack) that works well with a heavy bike like this (with fenders and panier rack). The Thule 903202 ( EasyFold XT2) looks like a good candidate but I was curious if there are other options that work as well ? The Kuat (...

Widespread Giant motor creaking problem - time for a recall?

Took my Explore E+ 1 with about 500 km on it in for this issue. They ended up R&R'ing all the motor mount bolts, etc. and it was quiet ... for the first 35 km ride after that ... now the sound is coming back ... :(

    SpeedBox2 Update

Yes - it was a creaking on hard pedal downstroke. They ended up having to disassemble the drive down to the mounts, then retorque everything and button it up again. They claimed it was fine on test ride afterwards, but I haven't had the chance to check it out myself yet.

    SpeedBox2 Update

Yes - there are 2 classes of devices like this that I have seen (other than the simple hack of flipping the sensor). One is a simple item that snaps over the wheel speed sensor (eg. BadAss Box and, I assume, the Bikespeed-key) which intercepts the magnetic pulses from the wheel. One can...

    SpeedBox2 Update

Sorry to hear of that. The hack (flip the sensor to face the pedals) or the BadAss box do work well (with the exception of incorrect speed / odom on the RideControl) - but if you use an alternate app like Strava or Wahoo that is less of an issue. In my case, I was SUPER glad that it was...

Known Issues & Problems with Giant Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Just took my 2019 Explore E+ 1 in to the local Giant store to look at the motor / mount. Developed a really noticeable creak on hard pedaling. There is some free-play (in & out) on the crank axle that has me concerned and may be related - maybe 0.5mm - not a lot, but noticeable with your hand...
