    Creo 320w Battery Strip

Thanks for sharing. Did you try restoring the battery contacts? ie does the BMS permanently trigger over-discharge protection and brick the battery pack?

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I have the Electrak 2.0 Armadillo 700x51 on the rear because if its very good puncture resistance. Very tight clearances and had to true the wheel to prevent it from rubbing against the seat stay and chain stays.

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

Thanks. This project is affected by the chip shortage as well, so it's quite tricky to get parts (TPS92692/TPS92691). Will post updates here, stay tuned.

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

This charger will plug directly into the Creo, since it's the same among the Creo, Vado SL, Levo SL models. It'll be slightly bigger than the red plug of the Specialized charger. The power input to this charger module will be a USB-C PD enabled charging brick, such as a MacBook USB-C adapter.

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

Sorry, I've been busy for some time. I've been in touch with geeksville, who has graciously volunteered to work on the firmware side of this project. Will provide updates, and hope to see it finalize in the next few months. No plans for Kickstarter due to lack of demand. This seems to be a niche...

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

That'd be amazing, thanks for the offer. To give you a better idea of the HW, here's what I'm planning on doing: The MCU is an ESP8266 for info display and control over WiFi. Haven't decided if we'd like the ESP to act as an WiFi AP or have the ESP connect to an existing AP. Monitor pack...

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

You're correct that li-ion batteries need to be treated with respect. Operating or storing them out of spec (under or over voltage, overcurrent, over or under temperature) can cause serious issues. The USB-C adapter will have safety features that takes this into account.

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

I don't have a range extender or a Y-cable so I'm not sure. May be an oversight or a technical limitation, although I can't think of any off the top of my head. In your experience, what's the charging order? Main battery then the range extender, or simultaneously? Do they charge simultaneously...

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

Slightly slower at 100W compared to the original charger's 163.8W. USB PD 3.1 allows up to 240W, but no chargers support it yet so I'm planning to stick to 100W max. If 240W USB-C adapters come out in a few years, I may update the design. For the charge control logic, I believe the charger...

I'm working on the PCB design. While it's sent off to a fab, I'll be working on the code for the MCU.

Thanks. I may need some more interest to get a range extender and test it. Here's a 90W USB-C PD charger and cable that you can use: https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Charging-Adapter-MacBook-Laptops/dp/B09PBK115P $30 or $24 with the promo coupon.

Turbo Vado 5 battery removal issue

The Abus lock can be finnicky. I like to wiggle the key while turning clockwise all the way. Then tap the left side of the battery into the frame to release the battery.

Any problems with hanging my Turbo Vado upside down?

Correct. The only affected part would be the hydraulic brakes. Should return to normal after several pumps in the normal orientation. That only applies to lead-acid batteries (car batteries) that have free flowing electrolyte. Li-ion cells do have a liquid electrolyte, but is not free flowing...

Vado/Como/Creo/Levo/Kenevo SL USB-C Charger Adapter Interest Check

Hi folks, I'm working on an USB-C adapter that would allow the SL battery to be charged with a USB-C adapter, such as the one used for modern MacBooks. The original Specialized charger is $200 and is bulky. When I ride my bike to work or friend's house, there's a good chance there's already a...

Can I charge my battery with a DC 12v to DC 48v step up converter?

You can charge it with a boost converter with a constant voltage and constant current mode. Be careful though, if you don't know what you're doing, things can get out of hand quick.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I'm used to the wired TCD of the non-SL Vado, which I dearly miss. Backlight that was synced with the bike light power, controlled by the remote buttons, etc. I'd get the range extenders if they were cheaper. I got a brand new internal battery for a good deal from someone who was shipping their...

Doesn't that make a crunching sound as the chain climbs up and down the sprocket? That can't be good for the longevity of the drivetrain.

Some quick thoughts on the 2022 Vado SL 4.0 EQ. It's a great bike and since there are many positive reviews, I'll focus on the nitpicky stuff. Very light. Almost as light as my hybrid commuter bike. The Tektro brakes bite well once bedded in. Walk mode engages immediately after pressing the...
