    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Hey David, I just saw your post. The Bike looks good! I saw a similar one while checking out one of the local shops around me. Very nice, but pricey! I'll check out the links you posted about your experience too. I checked out a retailer for the Haibikes near me and took some measurements...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Thanks for the info on the <color>Ped units. Definitely looking for a bit more personalized (ie. being able to fully adjust PAS dropoff speed, etc.) would be handy with a US ebike. Not looking to go super fast, but good to know it provides the option! Motor preference discovery is next on my...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

More great info, I was just reading about this in another thread. If I were to get a EU bike and use it stateside, I'd definitely look at getting this. If it works well, keep it. If I want something different, simply replace it when the bike warranty expires. Of course I've got the reverse...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

That's some great info Rakku, thanks for the detailed explanation! Of course, I can't expect it to be the same everywhere, but that makes the repercussions of operating outside of regulations far easier to understand. I can't say I'll go the same route you went, but it gives me something to...

Thoughts on the Haibike SDURO Trekking 4.0?

Think it would be workable at 188cm and 82-83cm inseam? And I thought the Yamaha's were a bit better for the lower-cadence pedalers. Long story short, disabling Zero Cadence sounds like it will extend the range considerably as well.

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Yep, most US ebikes are going to be regulated under the L1e-b classification due to the higher speed.

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Would you mind pointing me to said law? The most recent and detailed info that I can find is this: https://issuu.com/groenesteden/docs/rules_regulation_on_electric_cycles (May 10th, 2017) Which basically states the different classes of pedelecs and what requirements are in place for them...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Hmm, can you point me to the most recent regulations that indicate that? I haven't seen anything that indicated that - it seems many places in Europe, Pedelec class is still limited to 250w as well as the speed limit you mention. What I am understanding is you're saying it's not strictly...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Nice, even more flavor overload. If I end up holding off on this a bit (which seems more likely at this point) I might be able to budget for one of the 9.x's. Good to know, but does the fixed gear attached to the motor make a difference here as well? I'm more of a high-gear, high-resistance...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Yikes, that's good to know. Guess I'll want to stay away from those - which are all over the Kalkhoff bikes. Thanks for the info!

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

lol, I'm in Washington state at the moment, sounds like it could be the case though! Looks like Cali already did something similar on Jan 1st of 2017.

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

irish, as of July 1, 2018, ebikes sold in my state will be required to have this information (top assisted speed, class, motor wattage, etc.) on a permanent label somewhere highly visible on the bike. Something for me to keep in mind, but I will probably be shopping online anyway. I'd agree...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Novo & irish, I've seen the dongles and that crossed my mind as one way to do it. An additional spoke magnet would definitely throw off reporting of speed and distance, I guess the idea was that having two that are evenly spaced would effectively halve the cap on pedal assistance, bringing a...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Hey irishnutter, I took a closer look at this years' models and you're correct. In fact, the 2018 lineup doesn't even seem to keep the previous Sduro = Yamaha, Xduro = Bosch convention. They're weren't a ton of advantages that the Kalkhoff's had, there were a few QoL improvements that were...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't figure out the numbers corresponding with the Trekking series, so your explanation helps clear that up Rakku (even if there are outliers). Seems like another benefit of the Bosch/Yamahas is that the display can be swapped out and mounted off center. Doesn't...

    Looking for a commuter/trekker hybrid

Hello everyone! I’ve been immersing myself into the world of ebikes to learn everything I can in order to make an informed purchase. I’ve considered purpose-built ebikes, conversion kits, drive types, legality, use-cases, the works! I’ve come across a few that have interested me, and one in...
