Charging Ebikes on EV Charging stations

LOL, the local park didn't get the memo from YouTubers that they are responsible for 'infrastructure.' I keep a sailboat in a slip with (multiple) 30A pedestal. I pay $0.13/kW-hr. That's $0.02 above the city utility provider rate, and that very modest surcharge goes to pedestal maintenance. I...

NYC wants to license and register ebikes and scooters

This is sponsored by a councilman in response to the pedestrian death in Chinatown last year. It is not supported by DOT or lobbying groups like People for Bikes. The latter seems obvious. I do think other jurisdictions would rapidly follow for the revenue. Insurance will follow. I do think...

What Do You Do With Your Old Unused Conventional Bikes?

I just sold a 2007 Giant OCR3 which needed work for $20. I listed it on CL and started getting responses within 20min. 2 hours later it was gone. I was happy to get the space back.

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

I don't disagree. I remember the original lineup: Turbo, TurboX and TurboS with GoSwiss drives? Honestly, I lost track of Specialized's progress during the dark days of Mission Control + getting pulled into BoschWorld, but the current lineup and footprint is impressive. My impression on the...

    Ebikeschool.com epic China visit

I watched this when released and thought it was one of the best ebike-themed videos I'd ever watched. I liked the synergy between Micah and his hosts - they played off of each other very well. I also thought it was very humanizing. Instead of "cheap Chinese junk" it was the people proud of the...

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

The Charger was a dealer trade-in. It was a NuVinci drivetrain, and at the time, I was told a Rohloff conversion was too difficult/expensive. I feel people have had some success with the forsale forum here. I've seen plenty of R+Ms sold, and many other brands as well. I do agree about the...

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

To be fair, back in 2015-2016 Stromer represented the top-of-the-line. Stromer was a first love, and you know how it is with first loves: What could have been? And the siren song of Pinion! I also liked Kalkhoff back then. I went to an expo in '16, test rode the Integrale S11 + received a $200...

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

Great question. Better isn't the right word. Stromer and R+M are more innovative; more likely to integrate the latest tech. This is very attractive if you're the early adopter type, especially when it's a feature you've been waiting for. I am not a Specialized expert, but Trek and Tern tend to...

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

Dropping the price means competing directly with Trek, Specialized and Tern. Trek has a very large footprint, of course, very visible. Specialized is well-known. I have yet to meet anyone with a Tern complaint IRL, and I see a lot of their bikes on the road. The sub-forum here is also issue-free...

Following Yamaha out the door: Stromer is bailing out of the US Market

I'm actually surprised Stromer lasted here as long as they did. In response to 'What is going on here?', I'll add a few observations. The heady 'good, old days' were also a time when people saw $$ to be made by jumping on the bandwagon. As a result, 1. US skeleton crews. I was recently told...

Interested in experience of people transitioning to a frontloading cargo bike

Packsters were recalled 20-21; assume this is a refurbished recalled model. Problem was with the steering, IIRC. Regardless, I would not purchase a Vario -- too many have failed multiple times on cargo bikes during the warranty period for comfort.

    Review of my Lectric ONE.

Well this is underwhelming but appreciated. The plethora of magnets purports to imbue torque sensor-like qualities to the cadence sensor. Have you owned any torque-sensing bikes? I'm trying to figure out whether the magnets are a kludge, or if it just feels delayed compared to pure cadence...

    Review of my Lectric ONE.

Thank you. I have a 31.6 Kinekt seatpost I could dedicate to this bike, if I take the plunge. Sounds as though I will need a shim. Looking forward to your comments as you use the bike.

What is the seatpost diameter? Couldn't find it in the review write-up. I miss Court's attention to detail. Thanks.

NYC PSA E-bike Battery Fires 11/11/22 NBC News

Lithium ion battery fires are the #1 cause of fire-related deaths in NYC. Given that the buildings are likely given guidance by property insurance companies, thus is likely to get complicated. I did not watch the video either but did look for the attorney. A bike accident lawyer, hmm. Imagine...
