"Inventor Who Built 'Wheelchair' Out of Electric Bikes for Girlfriend Starts Mass-Production"

Apologies, this was probably a misleading thread title. It's definitely a niche product, like adopting a bomb-disposal robot as a pet, or something. (But some people may NEED that bomb-disposal robot). Not a practical option for some. So much effort is being put into e-bike technology, there's...

"Inventor Who Built 'Wheelchair' Out of Electric Bikes for Girlfriend Starts Mass-Production"

https://interestingengineering.com/inventor-who-built-wheelchair-out-of-electric-bikes-for-girlfriend-starts-mass-production I thought this was an interesting build out of 2 RAD fat bikes.

Show us pictures of your cockpit!

A bit boring I guess. At night I add a (brighter) light. The holder is for a camera.

    What is your security set-up?

ABUS Bordo, small ABUS D-lock + cable (for wheel) if I'm leaving it for a while out of sight. For quick trips to the supermarket/library just the Bordo. I can also take the controller off which makes it harder to make off with.

20 mph ebike to carry 2 kids (gravel, dirt, pavement)

Thanks for the update! I also loved the Tern GSD when I tried it, although I didn't get it as I would have to sell my current e-bike (and I couldn't bring myself to part with it!). Happy biking :) What colour did you get?

You could try the Tern GSD if there is one near you.

I need to choose the right E bike

Hi I am also in NZ (if you are in NZ!). While there are some Euro-spec bikes around (restricted to 25kph), this year it's quite common to see bikes with the US restriction of 32kph. And there are some that go faster, too. For mid-drives I would recommend checking out the Smartmotion X-City, and...

    Test rides

Awesome! The Magnum Metro is really popular in my town, and I have to say the people riding them look pretty happy.

    Test rides

It's an interesting discussion. I have ridden a lot of e-bikes and some I liked, some I didn't. One very expensive bike surprised me on a hill (and not in a good way). At home we have a mid-drive Shimano that I use all the time, and also a hub-drive Juiced. They are both great, but very...

I'm curious...for those of you who leave your bike locked for an hour or more, do you remove the battery and take it with you?

No, but I take the controller off (Shimano STEPS). The battery has a lock on it.

New E-Bike for aussie to commute to work around 60km round trip

It's probably worth moving to NZ for, to be honest ;)

New E-Bike for aussie to commute to work around 60km round trip

Pleased to see a mention of Merida here! I have a Merida eBig and it's awesome, such a stable and fun bike. Although - I do have one with the 25kph limit. I am really good at cruising along at 25.9kph now :) But when I go over that, it just cuts out. This is not such a problem for me as I only...

Dealing With Wildlife Encounters While Ebiking

Ha that is quite like my commute. So far: A very close encounter with a low flying shag. Low flying kaka. Two big fat kereru. A cat with a blackbird in its mouth. An enormous beetle straight in the face. Pooped on by a bee (again, in the face). Not quite up there with bear encounters...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Beautiful photos, what a great thread. I haven't taken many photos but here's a couple from when I was brand new to e-biking. Wellington, New Zealand.

    How steep is your hill?

Ironic that you want to buy Canadian but there's no dealer near you. What do your LBS sell?

    Bell Stratus Mips Helmet?

If you are after a MIPS helmet take a look at the Bell 4Forty. (I have the Hela Joy Ride which is the same as the 4Forty).

    How steep is your hill?

Hi Feliz. I don't know either of those bikes I'm afraid. Have you tried them? That will be the key to understanding their ability on hills. I've never heard of Achiever motors before but of course the Bafang on the Biktrix is very widely used. (Not usually upside-down, though?). Also, get the...

    How steep is your hill?

Oops I posted on another thread about hills but I actually meant to post on this one (the one that got a Bee Gees song stuck in my head). I live in a very hilly city which is why I bought an e-bike. Shimano STEPS mid-drive. I tried it out on a short 16% hill and it sailed up, so I bought it...

Another Newbie - Help Me Choose Post

I would personally buy local. I wouldn't want to buy a bike I couldn't try out and if something goes wrong I'd want local support. I think bike fit and feel/balance is really important in an e-bike, as with any bike. I bike longer distances on my e-bike than I would on my regular bike. Also to...

    Hill climbing ability

I live in a very hilly city which is why I bought an e-bike. Shimano STEPS mid-drive. I tried it out on a short 16% hill and it sailed up, so I bought it. It's super easy to get up the longer but less steep hills (7-10%). It struggled when I took it up a 20% gradient hill but it did make it. *I*...
