    Right of way question

Recently I was pedaling down a bike lane in Bellingham, when a biker came toward me in my lane (don't know whether it was ebike or acoustic). I yielded by moving out into the auto traffic lane, because otherwise we would have collided. I don't know what the other rider would have done, or...

Help! Can't get my wife to try ebike.

She rides an analog Electra step-thru for errands around our fairly flat town. But yesterday, we had to climb a long (over a mile) and fairly steep hill, and she struggled to make the climb. Had to walk the bike much of the time, and won't use her granny gear because going so slow is "too...

    Seat Surprise (WTF?)

After pedaling to my "Silver Sneakers" walk this morning, I mounted up for the return, noticed my seat felt wonky, and was startled to see it fall to the pavement. Had to walk the bike a mile or so to get it home. So glad it wasn't farther, and that it didn't happen in the middle of a busy...

    My First Real Crash.

First crash—and it was a doozy. Happened Tues, Oct 13. Some of you might remember that I was the guy who pointed out that bikers can now treat stop signs as “yield” signs in Washington State. So, ironically, my crash involved an intersection where I did not have the right of way. But it did not...

Washington State to allow bikes to "yield" at stop signs

The "Road Rules" column in the Bellingham Herald a few days ago (Sept. 14) said the state was going to allow cyclists to yield at stop signs, rather than coming to a complete stop. I know a lot of us sort of cruise through those red octagons, but open ourselves to citation by doing so...

    Newbie from Bellingham, WA

I started out biking as a kid (like most of us) when we had nothing but one-speeds and coaster brakes. Schwins, mostly, but I had a 24"Columbia, which I outgrew in 6 months. Together with my pals, we rode all over SW Portland in our quest for adventure. A buddy and I used to ride up to Lewis &...

Problems with speedo and odometer on C class.

When I first got my Ariel C class a few weeks ago, the speedo and odometer worked fine. Then they went blank. Ariel support suggested checking that the magnetic button and pickup sensor on the frame were in alignment. But this was no help. Then I had one of those "I wonder if . . . " moments...
