    Constant broken springs freehub body

Or as @fooferdoggie knows, get a White Industries or maybe an Onyx hub. DT Swiss makes some strong AL rims, and have a wheel builder at it. These take heavier loads and last. Onyx makes zero sound when coasting. White Industries does make sound but they are highly durable.

    Trek FX+ 2 or Trek Marlin+ 8 2nd gen?

The Tempo is 39 pounds and has a pedal assist range on the flats of 60 miles. It is 350W and has a removable throttle so it can be Class 1, 2, or 3. It has nation wide support with 1,600 dealers. Velotric is very responsive with service.

    The transition

"Obviousness" is not a substitute for data, testing, or valid reasoning. Many things that once seemed like "common sense" (such as the earth being flat or the sun revolving around the earth) have been proven wrong by science. The common sense claim is often used to avoid facts and shut down...

    Trek FX+ 2 or Trek Marlin+ 8 2nd gen?

Your wife's bike is very similar to the super popular Pace 500. It is not for me but it is probably the #1 bike in the US. The Velotrics are feature rich and at a nice price point for most people.

Dead as a doornail with fully charged battery

My brass olives are in a sack with my hydro hose kit. Today I had a medley of five or six colors of olives on cottage cheese. They are from the Valle Beice, Sicily. Yummy. No ape-ass for me, thank you very much. Now I am programing an M5 display, which for a cheap one allows for a lot of options.

Yes, it is like buying lobster from the fish counter at Whole Foods. At under $10 per pound bike sounds like a good deal on paper, making a 25 pound bike about $250. The Aipas marketing team named it after the ischial callosities of baboons. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callosity :D

I tend to like smaller batteries. I seldom go more than 50 miles. Most rides are less than 10 miles round trip. Really, how far away is the post office or grocery store? What is the destination, the train station, book store? I can use differently sized batteries in the same holder depending on...

    Trek FX+ 2 or Trek Marlin+ 8 2nd gen?

@modern, I have no idea where you are located. Sometimes and in some places you will have local shops that can do conversions of existing bikes that out perform stuff from the majors, with local service where everything is open source, not proprietary. See Johnny Nerd Out. And me on Google Maps...

    The transition

Should they be banned? Almost 50,000 people get killed in the US every year in cars. That is about the same as kidney disease, liver failure, or suicided per year. A typical stock Subaru all-wheel kid hauler now will out run a 1970 Corvette when it was new. What is more sexy in the snow? There...

I adore the Bontrager saddles and buy about two per month. Check the UV-Tech site for ratings of helmets before making any purchase. Roc-Bros pedals tend to be better at 1/3rd the price. Regardless @stompandgo is correct. Items can be gifted or you can gift the gift card. Most importantly, get...

Dead as a doornail with fully charged battery

It is his first electric bike. He told me he was really exited when he ordered it online after watching paid influencer videos hyping it. He wanted to save gas and commute everyday with it. Now he is turned off to all electric bikes. He wants to sell it for $850. So, if it is only 88 pounds as...

Dead as a doornail with fully charged battery

A guy had me unbox assemble and tune his Aipas M1-Pro. Then he wanted to be able to stop, so he had me install hydro quads. Then he got a flat and had me install Schwalbe cargo PickUp tires and a more comfortable, HB, grips, and better pedals. He has only ridden it about four times in three or...

    What’s your real-world e-bike range?

In the Pacific theater of WWII volunteer Charles Lindbergh was able to increase the operational radius of P-38 planes by 50%. It is not just the plane (or bike,) it is more about the pilot, (or rider.) He made some resets, trimmed the tabs, and went for efficiency. Then he showed others to do...

    What’s your real-world e-bike range?

Getting really good range is more of an approach and philosophy. Someone who rides a bike like a person sailing a sailboat will do much better than someone riding a bike like someone who does it like its a cabin cruiser. I am constantly shifting, such as down shifting when starting to approach a...

    What’s your real-world e-bike range?

That is bigger than most people think about. On a torque sensor bike high speed pedaling that is super smooth all the way around will get the best range. Wind resistance increases exponentially with speed. So, keeping it down around 20 Kph is best for range. The surface also make a big...

@modern, How did you come to have the gift card and how much is it? Sometimes when mfgs screw up they offer a 'loyalty discount' with an NDA. Ideally, you would want a mid-drive with an external, easily removable battery. The weight distribution is better and it is more efficient. When you load...

    Rumors, from the inside

I mentioned in a different thread that on a Marin bike I set the saddle height to the minimum insertion line from the mfg. And it still broke the top of the frame. On that mid-step bike the bottom of the seatpost was not below the top tube when set at the minimum insertion line. The dealer...
