It was making a hell of a racket on the next to last couple of rides-enough that other riders in my riding group commented on the noise. Interestingly, on the next ride, after washing the bike, the diff didn't make nowhere near as much noise. No idea why.

I think that eventually every Kindernay hub will leak and that's probably the reason they went out of business-they could solve the leaking problem.

It's been at least six months since my last drain/re-full, but I didn't think the fluid was low because I've only ridden the bike a handful of times since the re-fill and I haven't noticed any leaking. After the first hub leaking problem I check after every ride. Something to think about...

I have a Redshift suspension stem on my Giant Defy and I really like it. I'd love to also add a Redshift suspension seat post, but my bike has a 'D' shaped seat post (thanks Giant), so the Redshift seat post won't fit. :mad:

The Skarper motor cuts out at 15 mph (per European regs). This would be a deal-breaker for me, even if the price was a lot lower.

Without seeing the rubbing I'm going to guess it's either the rim is bent or the tire casing has failed, casing it to bulge in one spot.

Did the wheel always rub, or is it a recent problem? If it's recent I wonder if the rim is bent. I also have a Hydra, with a Kindernay hub.

I agree with fooferdoggie-proper gearing is very important when doing steep climbs. Also remember that Bosch motors need to spin to produce peak power. This probably holds true for all mid electric motors.

The only thing I'd add is buy an extra gasket, because sh*t happens. ;)

I took my ultra apart when it had less than 1500 miles on it because I thought the motor was getting noisy. To my surprise I found very little grease surrounding the gears and there was a noticeable amount of gear tooth wear. I ordered three new gears from GBK, but didn't order the motor...

I'm a bit surprised CYC hasn't worked out the reliability issues with their Photon motor. Having said that, CYC has a habit of using their customer base as beta testers.

I like the SX motor, but to utilize the full 600W a rider would have to pedal like a hamster on an exercise wheel.

I also prefer the all black battery. Would this also be available in 48V?
