fair enough! I kept drifting over 20mph last trip to Wales, it is hard to keep under.

    The transition

Deaths fell by a quarter in Wales after roll out. As a cyclist and a driver that can only be good news. Overall Casualties: Total casualties and collisions on 20mph and 30mph roads fell by roughly a quarter in the first year. Fatalities and Serious Injuries: In the 12 months following the...

Safety: one EV fire for every 10 ICE fires - a sack of petrol is just a little bit flammable as well. Battery fires do burn much hotter and much longer, but battery tech is evolving fast; SSBs, Sodium Ion etc etc all reduced risk of fire. Weight: Oxford University (as per Guardian) study into...

    The transition

Saw an interview with an aussie Taxi firm owner last year. In 2017 he bought 5 or 6 Teslas replacing his ICE taxi fleet. Living in Adelaide the South Australian Govt brought in free electricity from 11am to 2pm because of all the solar (part of the federally mandated Solar Sharer scheme), so he...

yeah that clip above covers that. it's cheap and within their borders, as are renewables. They are using both - vast population in huge metropolises with modern electricity demands of their enormous industry. But as the renewables infrastructure continues to be built that will change.

Good sum-up of where China is at with renewables and coal in 2026. Both sorta 50% 50% for now but the renewables expansion year on year is just extraordinary. How ironic that Trump's led-by-the-nose by Bibi's batshit Iran escapade is driving more and more to renewables - not because of climate...

Went shopping to a local town. They love a good sculpture of Dartmoor wildlife (including sheep) here.

Nice recap of the Giro as ever by the elegant writing of Inrng: https://inrng.com/2026/06/giro-2026-review/#more-47480

    The transition

Specific 'road tax' in the U.K. was abolished in the 1930s, it's now part of general taxation & local council tax that everybody pays including cyclists. Plus around 85% of adult cyclists own cars. Plus, and the lack of understanding of this always gets me, the better the bike infrastructure the...

    The transition

The rise in hatred of cyclists seems enormous and part of this left-right culture war. Why cycling has been dragged into it beggars belief. Most cyclists already own cars for a start. Here in U.K. far right politicians seem to hate cycling. As if it threatens them somehow? My niece, in Uni in...

Cheers Rab, though I wouldn't like to try it on one of your epic rides! Relieved you can get a replacement ticket. I hate when that kind of thing happens, such a sickening feeling.

Ganna is a machine! Lovely moment after the finish when he cycled past Milan and said something in Italian, Id say it as 'nearly got you' to his old friend. There can't be a better finish line then by the Colusseum. Spectacular race. Re Pinarello - yes! Saw Ganna's bike from a different angle!

The Netcompany/INEOS grey and orange kit is growing on me. Dunno why the bikes have the model name so big and not Pinarello, in front of world's TV cameras. Cyclists in the know will get it but not helping brand expand.

Yeah dunno how they check. 20grams though is pretty small. I'm guessing they go to the wire weightwise. Maybe she has a lighter set of wheels then they weighed? Or a smaller size frame or something.

And that's why we love the Giro, it's always unpredictable. Steeper twistier shorter climbs, narrow roads and so many medieval towns.

Never been to Rome. Looks beautiful in the sun. Istanbul and Rome, East and West capitals, not been to either. It must be in honour of Jonas's win and Black aginst the pink looks cool, but not sure if there's another reason. It wouldn't be grieving, no time to do whole kit, just black armbands.

Will Magnier win again? Adding to his 3 sprints & dooming Milan to none and post race depression. Anyone know why Visma are in black kit today? Missed any mention by the aussie commentators - who are busy ranking each team by overall performance, quite entertaining.
