What's holding back the e-bike boom? Research, safety, and bias (article)

That's a whole lotta opinion there. Unless you live in downtown San Francisco, most riders do not need 120 Nm of mid-drive. 85Nm is plenty. Front forks are great for city roads with broken pavement, potholes, sunken sewer covers, and the like. Rigid forks are great for light weight bikes. Belt...

    Sizing Question

Fit is very personal, much more than height and reach, but you know that. I rode a 54cm road bike, and ride a Large flat bar gravel bike. I thought that it would be too big, but it's not. Don't buy a bike in the wrong size because you just gotta have it. That can be an expensive mistake.

Please elaborate. What is lacking in other brands?

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Jonas said in the post-race that he had planned to attack much closer to the summit, but Kuss faltered, putting Lemmen on the front until he cracked, and Piganzoli popped, so he had to go a lot earlier than planned. He just plain looks fantastic. His new coach seems to be working out well. The...

I had the best seat in the house when Sepp Kuss won the Tour of Utah. His descending speed into Park City hit 73mph. Being a top rider on a top team is a blessing and a curse. He spoke a bit about how important that win was to him, because he keeps getting faster, but so does everybody else...

It was quite busy at the shop today, but I was able to watch bits and pieces of the last 25km. Once I read the post-race interviews, it all made sense. Jonas was not the only Visma rider doing the Giro with a mission. Sepp Kuss has won one or more stages in the TdF and the Vuelta, but not the...

New Federal E-Bike Legislation March 2026

I think that the only saving grace for MA not doing bans so far is that they shelled out for a massive voucher program the past two years that subsidized e-bike sales for low income residents that had no other means of transportation. Thousands were sold on my tax dollars dime. It cost the shop...

The peloton has split on the first category 1 climb. A number of GC contenders are up the road, along with Kuss, with the rest of Visma leading the main group at 1:16. No threat yet to GC.

Today is the queen stage, which is typically the most difficult stage near the end of the race that will decide the GC winner. A category 1 climb after a long run uphill, followed by four category 2 climbs, one at the finish. I am working today, so no race reporting after 09:00. I will try and...

Both teams were at the front on the climb. It is very unusual for sprinter teams to lead a climb. They kept things close enough to the leaders so that they could be caught for the sprint.

I am happy to hear that your dealer takes trade-ins. Ebay has made selling used e-bikes impossible. There are other outlets that we use at our shop, but many shops have chosen to not take trade-ins at all.

Thank you. The northern west coast and east coast are different, that's for sure. I came here from western MA, about 90 minutes from Albany. I used to work races in your area. The Hudson River valley is gorgeous. As for reporting analog bike rides, I see no problem with it, especially as e-bike...

    Checking in at 1K

You can tighten by hand, and it can come loose again. The torque specs are there for a reason. You have many options for a torque driver/wrench, ranging in cost from $30 for a single torque setting wrench to hundreds for a digital torque wrench. I prefer analog wrenches. My small one is a...
