Raising Handlebars to Ease Hand Pressure

I also have arthritis in my hands and sympathize with what your wife is experiencing. I tried swapping parts and made adjustments over several seasons and found these to be the most helpful. I added a stem riser with a suspension stem and replaced the straight bars with Jones H bars that have a...

Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

Back on topic, the Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer issued the following statement in a press release regarding a recent e-bike accident: "Parents who buy their child an E-motorcycle and let them ride them illegally or help modify e-Bikes to transform them into E-motorcycles are...

Wire Organizing- What Do You Use?

For fine wire, using heat shrink on each solder joint helps reduce the stress. The biggest risk is a "cold" solder joint that looks sound but fails easily. Mechanical stress relief is more important for larger gauge wire.

Anyone Tried Tannus Armor in a Schwalbe Marathon + Tire?

This is one of the reasons I gave up on Tannus in my Marathon+ tires. The other was, they compress over time and loose 70% of their thickness, unless you deflate the tire when you're not riding. To install the Tannus, I used tire talc and lots of rim lube with very little air in the tube. I...

    Easy way to clean rotors.

The only time I clean my rotors is when they get noisy. No reason to clean them otherwise.

CREO SL clicking/snapping noise while pedaling

An old thread and probably resolved, but it makes me chuckle when I think back to when I had that same clicking noise. Tried all the drivetrain fixes mentioned previously in the thread but nothing helped. I finally found out the problem was a loose spring in the seat that clicked as my weight...

    Easy way to clean rotors.

I used to use Comet and a damp sponge. I switched to Magic Erasers with a drop or two of water. Just fold the damp pad over the rotor and squeeze while spinning the wheel. Rinse & reuse with Less mess and easy to carry in a bag or pannier. An easy fix for noisy rotors while on the go.

California Assembly member proposes driver's license for e-bikes

I ride the same way and am also seeing more of these reckless e-motos on the trail. So much so that I bought a Garmin RearVue 820 radar to warn me of encounters with these illegal bikes.

    Signs of Spring

Not exactly a sign of Spring, in fact, just the opposite. 81F here 2 days ago with trees & plants budding out. Woke up this morning to 26F and this: It's predicted to be below 20F tomorrow morning. I guess we can say goodbye to our peach and apple blossoms.

Wire Organizing- What Do You Use?

I'm not a fan of butt splices for inline cable modifications. I'll admit, they are less prone to failure, but I prefer inline straight solder splices. To compensate for the strength loss, I cover each soldered wire splice with a tiny piece of shrink wrap and then cover the entire splice with...

Wire Organizing- What Do You Use?

I do the same for fine wire work. Soldering and covering with heat shrink makes a clean sleek joint that doesn't "bulge" like crimp connectors. The trick is to make the connection where stress or vibration isn't a factor.

Future of Drivetrains, No Gears, No Chain.

I think that's the theory, but I find it hard to believe a generator that small with it's inherent efficiency losses can create enough wattage to power the bike on it own. I suppose you could remain stationary and crank the generator to charge the battery though. I suspect that generator simply...

Future of Drivetrains, No Gears, No Chain.

Interesting idea but how do you get home with a dead battery or electrical failure? With a chain, at least you could pedal the bike back.

    Robot Mowers

Yes, I mow 7 acres, but most of it is done with a 60HP tractor. Heat and A/C in the cab make the 4 hour job fairly pleasant. Most of that time is spent maneuvering around on one acre or less parcels, which a robot mower could easily do. That would cut my mowing time in half. I actually came...

    Robot Mowers

My wife and I greatly favor this approach but is isn't practical everywhere. Ideal in urban / suburban settings but not so much in rural areas. We live in the Pocono Mountains and there are very few roads that are safe for bikes. The climate is also restrictive here half the year. We value our...

    Robot Mowers

My wife and I are intrigued by this process and do what we can with our 25 acres. Unfortunately, some areas are better suited than others. The biggest problem we have is invasive species that are taking over open fields in this part of the state. Autumn Olive and Multi Floral Rose are the...

    Robot Mowers

I don't pay anyone to maintain the acreage. Ours is a rural country setting on a dead end private road that few people even see. Still, we like to keep the place looking presentable, even if it's just for ourselves. No money to be saved in landscaping fees, just a time saver, which at my age, is...

Marion Iowa Considers Speed Limits for E-Bikes

Certainly a step in the right direction, but as you say, laws don't mean much without enforcement. I've been riding bike trails for over 30 years and many have had posted speed limits for as long as I can remember. I've never seen any enforcement in all that time, nor was any necessary. It...

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

My brother found out last year what happens when battery charging does go wrong. The building next to his in an apartment complex nearly burned down: You can see in the first picture where an ebike was being charged on a first floor balcony. The battery ignited and set fire to the vinyl...
