Trump cancels trail, bike-lane grants deemed hostile to cars.

Interesting mate. Where I live—in rural Victoria—I can leave my trike in the main street, and go into the supermarket out of site of it, and know that when I come back to my trike, it'll still be there... unlocked.

    Ebike helmet

I guess another consideration is your personal style of riding when considering a helmet. Someone such as an oldie like me riding an e-trike at 15km/hour doesn't really need a full-face helmet for example, but a young bloke riding rough downhill mountain trails should be wearing one. I note...

NSW (Australia) Government Allows [Non-Converted] E-Bikes on NSW Trains

Victoria’s public transport system is close to banning e-scooters and e-bikes as soon as later this year, citing the potential risk of fires on board. [Drive, 24 August 2025] An e-bike fire on a Melbourne train earlier this year caused the train to be evacuated and the closure of a station...

Another "what bikes might be a good fit for me" post, but for a short woman

My only suggestion—from an oldie—is to be wary of folding e-bikes. Although marketed as (supposedly) fitting in the back of a SUV with the rear seats down, they can be just as heavy as a non-folder, and often need—must have—two people to wiggle them in due to their awkward configuration.

    Hello From the Antipodes

LOL... I guess it's an old tradition pushed by the Brits as their former colony of Australia was considered to be literally the end of the world. If anybody—particularly crime writers of playwrights wanted to send someone far, far away, often in disgrace, then Australia was it! Never been a...

    Hello From the Antipodes

Thank you kindly JG. I'm guessing from YouTube cycling videos I've watched that the main population centres in Canada are well served with decent paved bike paths. Oh that we had those here! My trike has 4" fatties to cope with the gravel tracks we often have to ride on.

    Hello From the Antipodes

Thanks Dave. I've often thought over the years I'd probably choose Canada as another country I could easily live in if things got crook downunder. We only travelled as far as Niagara Falls when we toured North America many moons ago, and should've made the effort then and there. We're too old...

    Hello From the Antipodes

Thanks so much for this informative—and timely!—response Jeremy. I'd never thought about any relationship with cadence, so I'll give it a go tomorrow.

    Hello From the Antipodes

G'day from downunder... I live in rural South Gippsland in the state of Victoria, right down on the southernmost tip of the Aussie mainland, next to Bass Strait. I've owned three two-wheelers, and now have a tricycle. I was, I guess, happier riding those, but I'd fallen off a couple of times...
