    people for bikes city ratings

i cycled a few weeks ago in Chicago while there for a conference and found it to be a very nice and effective way to get around-they have rentable e-bikes that we used that were cheap and easy to ride and had a nice front basket for our bag. my wife was less sure with the traffic, and then...

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

cycled in this morning and wore my fitbit just for fun to see heart rate data, turns out my heart rate was perfectly at the top end of zone 2 for me, my ride is only 20 minutes but total per week that's an easy 3.3 hrs of light easy zone 2 effort which is so good for the heart. the fresh air...

Three Years with my RadMission, new brake pads

also have and love the bike, kicked around buying a second one too during the mega sale but passed due to garage space, just had mine in the shop for the first time in 3 years, they put a new chain, new brake pads and it's like new. tires still look brand new, really happy with those, only thing...

    And todays morons are

ive almost got to the point where i am stopped around pedestrians, after bike commuting the past 8-10 years, i feel like i've seen it all. between airpods and phones, no one can hear me coming anyways and isn't listening. i've had so many people completely turn in front of me without any notice...

How much to spend on a ebike?

i spent 1000-1500 range and was very happy on a 10 mile one way fairly flat commute. aventon pace 500. rear hub motor, no front shocks. if i got a do-over, i would have spent more and got a mid-drive for a more natural pedal feeling and got front shocks.

Do All eBike Motors Have Issues?

I've got 2,500 miles and 4 years out of my rear-hub motor on my Aventon Pace 500, no idea what motor is on it but seems to work like the first day I got it. battery is definitely showing a bit of signs of aging, but motor sounds like new.

Can't Get My New Urtopia Bike to Work

went to their website and looks to have a 2 year warranty, not sure if you bought it from a dealer or direct online but would reach out asap to whoever sold it to you, best of luck! never fun to have problems with a new bike (or any product for that matter)

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

I've definitely slowed down on my e-bike the past few years. When I get around walkers/joggers I go even slower. I've seen people on bike paths just randomly cut across in front of me multiple times for no reason at all. And most folks have in airpods so a bell or polite on your left doesn't do...

Can someone explain to me e-bike maintenance

just took my 3 year old e-bike in to the LBS for a basic tune-up for the first time since owning it! they put a new chain on, adjusted the brakes which was the primary reason for the visit, and a few other minor things, out the door for like $130 and it rides like new. couldn't be happier!

NYC wants to license and register ebikes and scooters

just happy to see folks out getting fresh air and some movement. for what it's worth, a lot of the folks ive talked to riding e-bikes say they cant quite ride a non-electric bike anymore for a variety of reasons so i think that's a positive overall if they are on an e-bike as opposed to not...

    Frame Snapped

yikes that's scary, been biking my whole life and never had a frame crack (just by saying that itll probably crack tomorrow on my ride), good luck with a warranty claim. i'm pretty sure most bike companies offer lifetime warranty on frames and this sure looks to be a quality issue and nothing...

NYC wants to license and register ebikes and scooters

seems like a tough sell, i'm seeing more e-bikes out on the path's this year which is a good thing overall. don't see how it would be very feasible to license/insure these things at all but i'm sure someone will try. i saw another article the NYC is trying to ban e-bikes in central park but i...

What's holding back the e-bike boom? Research, safety, and bias (article)

year over year i continue to see more ebikes on the bike paths and in the bike lanes, it will be fun to see this year as the weather turns nice in illinois how many new ebikes are out there on the paths. i know i'm excited to get mine out more frequently now that the weather is turning even for...

The gym and lack of going.

used to do a 10-12 mile one-way commute, my only advice would be get something really comfortable that you really like spending a lot of time on. sometimes by the end of the week, my butt and shoulders were pretty sore. if you are looking to get a workout sometimes but not all the time, i wish i...

Does my ideal bike exist already?

good luck! i doubt a perfect fit exists, you may need to just get the best you can and do it for a year and see how it's working out. i did this for a couple years and always found the up the stairs is the easy part, the down the stairs is the part i always used to about trip over my bike and go...

    Good uses for walk mode

agreed, the one time i tried walk mode just to try it out it would be better described as jog mode. not sure why i would ever use it. after 3 years of ownership i'm yet to encounter a time i would use it. this is on an aventon pace 500 (i think it's the original version at this point)
