    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

How did you get this data? I’m envisioning myself audio recording myself reading motor and rider power of the display while I ride. It looks like you were able to capture much more granular data.

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Clearly Px is a function of E and Pr. Pedal harder, get more motor power. Increase the ease setting, get more motor power. The Spech data table says nothing about how Px varies with Pr FOR A GIVEN E except we know Px is 0 when Pr is 0 and the table gives Pr and Px at saturation for 10...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

The only difference between static (E+M) and dynamic (M=100). is motor power is not artificially capped in the static case so the curves are the same. I bet the slight differences are due to rounding in your calculations. You are assuming row 10 in the spec data table is an error. We just...

There were a couple of dozen gators along the road near the lake shore. They all moved off when I got close. Can't say I wasn't nervous though. Intellectually I was fine. If they ate tourists either the tourists or the gators wouldn't be here. My reptilian brain stem said "RUN".

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

My wife was going to be away for a week in early January so I took that opportunity to take my bike to Florida and ride some of the many rail trails in the state. I didn't want to drive the 1000+ miles with the bike on the hitch carrier both for reasons of security and not reducing the range of...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Do think it's possible the whole notion of "boost" is something Specialized marketing department thought up to convey a sense of how powerful the motor is in a way that would be meaningful to experienced bike riders?

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

It should be 400 watts at the rear wheel. The tables suggest at 100/100 85 rider watts gets you 300 motor watts so 100 rider + 300 motor = 400 total. The 450 watts at 100/100 on the graph above is a mistake. At 100/100 motor watts = rider watts * 3.53 up to a max of 300 watts. My mistake...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Final chart, I promise. This shows total power for each dynamic (power not capped) micro tune setting with the rider providing 100 watts in every case. This is probably a more meaningful analysis. I for one could manage a steady 100 watts but not for a very long time. When I get my new bike...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Further combining the two tables and assuming the motor torque multiplier is linear for a given "ease" setting this shows the total, rider and motor power vs ease when pedaling at saturation with E=M.

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

one more little wrinkle, a bit higher up in that support document there is a graph of motor mechanical power output vs pedal RPM. 320 w is the max at 90 RPM. It drops to 300 w at 80 RPM.

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Digging deeper into the rider power / motor power topic, using the Specialized support info linked in Allan's post above: Since the motor produces a maximum of 300 watts at the pedal crankshaft at an 80 cadence, 20/100 means each rider watt is matched by (300/520) 0.58 motor watts 50/100...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Thanks Jeremy. I'm an engineer too and appreciate your very detailed posts on how the specialized motor controller works. My curiosity has to do with this: Lets say I'm riding in ECO (20/20) at maybe 12 mph at saturation. If I want to go faster it's all me. But if ECO is 20/100 all else...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

I've been riding my Trek analog bike with 2" stem extender for a couple of years and find it comfortable. The SL2 medium with 60 mm rise bars will have almost exactly the same reach, stack and handle grip height above ground as my large size Trek FX-3. Fingers crossed it's just as...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Allan, thanks for the deep dive into how Mastermind H3 works. I've been riding my Como with 15/20, 50,50 and 100,100 settings. It never occurred to me to set the max motor power to 100% for all settings, just varying the torque multiplier. Definitely going to try that when I get the bike and...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Stefan, I got the medium frame. My height (5'10" but shrinking) and shin length in the Specialized size calculator says I'm right on the boundary between medium and large. I would have chosen the Large to get the higher stack but the LBS owner thought the increased reach would somewhat offset...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

I had to give up $500 to get that color. I probably couldn't tell the difference between 4.0 and 5.0. The 4.0. came in gloss green and matte grey. 5.0 in gloss light grey and the blue matte. The matte silver was good looking but my car and other bike are dark grey so I wanted something a...

    Turbo Vado 2 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0?

Ordered the 5.0 today. Honestly the matte blue offered on the 5.0 swayed me the most. LBS said my new bike should be here within a week. With the freezing weather forecasted for the next week or even longer I'm in no hurry.
