How hilly? Do you really need a mid drive? Even here in WA I see riders with hub drives zoom up hills at high speed. Pretty impressive actually. Toronto doesn't strike me as all that hilly. Maybe ask Ravi if the Shakti might work for you...

I was speaking on behalf of founders that requested refunds. They have been refunded. I personally am still waiting for the mythical Helios as are a few other founders.

Don't get the Freedom if you have a heavy bike as the rotation mechanism Is hopelessly flawed for anything but lighter bikes.

Same as innotrace, but WW paid for UL certification to be able to offer it in North America. Innotrace would not offer it to North American customers before that and WW got an exclusive for doing it. The price difference is profit, duty, and recovery of certification cost. Ask nice and they...

Apples to oranges as I have a Frey CC. Diferent tires, battery capacity, terrain, usage, etc. Before I upgraded to the X1 controller I had range anxiety. Now I worry more about my butt wearing out than my battery which I guessitmate is good for ~50 miles. I never ride that far in a day though.

I'd say in the ball park of my Yamaha PW mid drive. Feels like more a blend of torque and cadence sensing as you get up to speed, but I kind of prefer that as there is less fade in/out.

I assume you meant to say you'd be fine with the stock X1 controller because I'm not sure you can tune the stock Bafang to be as smooth or efficient. Night and day difference for me after upgrading to the X1 although I never bothered to tune the stock controller. X1 is not so much about power...

Upgrading to the X1 is a no brainer if you are buying a bike from them since you won't have to swap out your motor like everyone else. The upgrade cost should be trivial as they are making their profit on the rest of the bike. Would be incredibly stupid a huge mistake to opt for the stock...

That's just throttle on the X1 if restricted. You can have them derestrict but will affect warranty. Oodles more power if you actually pedal and smooth delivery unlike the stock controller.
