2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Truer words were never spoken. Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955) put it well: Combine that mindset with an ebike good for poking around in new places — as you've done here — and you have a recipe for hours and hours of fun wherever you are. Well, maybe not in the jacket...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Finally got a chance to watch the 2026 Catalunya S7 replay, and did so with these comments in mind. And I see now what Remco was up to. Still a long ways to go, but thanks especially to you and @Rás Cnoic , I'm becoming a much more sophisticated race watcher. I can see how the teamwork and...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Sorry, not following how all of this applies to my flat bars.

Thanks! Gives me hope that an affordable upgrade might be possible.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

OK, I'll bite. Ballpark, what did you spend on upgrading the Nytro's brakes? I know you have flat bars. Do you also have flat-mount calipers like me?

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Not really. It's listed as work done, but he only charged 15 minutes total labor for the saddle/seatpost fix, which he told me also included some diagnostic time. Besides, they've done enough favors for me that I wouldn't press it. Wondering if his assistant dropped the wedge, as it doesn't...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Lest anyone think that only dummies drop the SL 1's brilliantly designed loose seatpost wedge down the seat tube... Took my SL 1 to my favorite LBS for (a) a repeatedly sticking rear brake piston, and (b) a weird creaking noise suddenly coming from the saddle/seatpost. And look what happened...

    I bought a Grizl:ON CF 9, AMA

Unfortunately, Canyon is strictly DTC. They've contracted with REI to handle repairs, but is REI really equipped to handle the electrical side? Maybe some REI stores, but seriously doubt that all are ready to tackle electrical issues like the OP's. Seriously looked at the Grizl CF8 ebike but...

    Weird Specialized discovery....

Nor is it true of every Specialized dealer. I've personally dealt with 3 over the years, 2 of them in the last 2 years. All 3 were friendly and helpful. No snobbery detected. My favorite LBS of all time — and I've dealt with many — is a Specialized dealer. They also sell Colnago, Factor...

Beautiful Colnago road bike with quite a paint job from last week's Wednesday morning road ride out of Encinitas: Ridden by a woman of roughly my age (77). High sentimental value, as her brother gave it to her before he passed away. She figures roughly 2005 vintage. Doesn't know if it's custom...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Sounds like he got off lucky. Tumbling down a ravine on a descent is a good way to get dead or quadrupelegic. Pidcock reportedly said that he used up one of his lives in this one. Wonder if it'll dampen his daredevil descent style going forward? Today, the Catalunya commentator mentioned a new...

Announcer just said that Pidcock injured his knee yesterday (S5) and is out of Catalunya. Pity, he was doing so well. Quick recovery.

Yes, last time around. I think he found a little "debris" inside, but parts looked intact. Replaced pads with better metallics. Better grip, a little less modulation, just like he said, but I like them. Bike's at the shop, so can't look. Stock, whatever that is — presumably Tektro. Official...

    correct connections when charging

There's no universal order. Do what the official manual says. I have 2 ebikes. One manual says to plug into the battery charging port with the charger already powered up. The other says the opposite.

Wondering about the rear, so that will be checked.

The SL still has its stock Tektro 2-piston calipers with 160 mm rotors. The front's been fine for the whole 3,600 mi, but one piston on the rear keeps getting stuck against the rotor. Not sure how the warranty claim will go, as it will be with Tektro, not Specialized. If I end up paying out of...

Had to drop off the Vado SL 1 yesterday for yet another rear brake service — this time hopefully for a richly deserved warranty replacement. So I got in a 16 mi Coast Highway fitness ride on the way. North turnaround was the Carlsbad State Beach overlook just as you come into Carlsbad Village...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Thanks for helping me understand the cable routing involved in putting a cable-actuated dropper on the SL 1. If I ever go to electronic shifting, I'll seize the opportunity. Till then, I've given up on a dropper for my SL. The only lever-actuated dropper under consideration was the KS eTen. And...
