Seems the NCM though using a Bafang motor has a NCM Das_kit custom controller and display. Have you tried contacting NCM?

Not a bad idea but some batteries cut output when removed. If your battery has extra connection pins they could be to confirm that it's installed on the bike. You may be able to bypass this safety feature but it may make more sense to just check for power at the controller or at its connection...
