Live in South Africa. Looking for advise on convert a Kona Cube Duel suspension MTB to an e-bike.

I've owned a Bafang BBS02B conversion since 2016. It's almost 2X more powerful than a DM02 mid drive or a TSDZ2B mid drive, which I also own. I also have hub motor bikes that more powerful than the latter two motors. You can lazily ride the bafang slow as molasses or fast as hell. It's...

Live in South Africa. Looking for advise on convert a Kona Cube Duel suspension MTB to an e-bike.

Three questions. 1. Since your wife loves your ebike, what are you riding at the moment? 2. Also, many of us do not know the Kona line, How about a link to your wife's bike? Full suspension can make battery placement pretty challenging, 3. Where/how will it be used? Expected range?

Intro from Louisiana and suspension help

I have changed forks from threaded to threadless. I probably didn't need to do it, but I also put in a new headset, which meant knocking out the top and bottom cups, followed by pressing in the new cups in the headset. Well, the old cups are easy to knock out with a screwdriver and hammer. The...

    Balancing - Time-Consuming?

Balancing shouldn't take much time on a quality battery with well matched cells. If you had one where you knew it was taking 6-8 hours to balance, and if it did this every time you recharged the battery, there is something fundamentally wrong, Only the more expensive batteries have balance...

People for Bikes: Progress on Ebike Laws in the US

In the end, it's the local laws that matter. A lot of the suburbs around me are putting age restrictions on scooters and ebikes. I see a lot of children getting around on e-scooters on sidewalks and sometimes our streets. I have nothing against that. It's better than having their parents ferry...

    Rocket launcher e-bike?

Looks like your typical fat tire bike motor. You could find the biggest bafang geared notor, because the gears are available, Then when he melts it again, it's repairable. Another possibility is to go direct drive with a high watt motor. I suspect they might accelerate slower, but higher top...

    Rocket launcher e-bike?

Tough item to find. 1200w geared motor. DIdn't find any via Google, If you find one, you'll probably need to spoke it into the old rim. The threaded cable plug is used for higher current motors. If the motor don''t have one, they;re probably lying about the 1200W.

    Funhang EB-1 starship

Delivery fee of $169 is kind of stiff, I wonder what happens there. if you send the bike back, they keep the fee? Hopefully no need to send it back. I don't think our laughing OP is AI though, Just drunk with the power of ebiking.. I do remember my first test ride on an ebike at Crazy Lenny's...

    Li-ion or LiFePO4?

A competent hobbyist could build a 16x2 battery out of these $4 Life cells with careful soldering. That would be 51.2V fully charged and 30AH on paper. One cell is 268g, so it's about 16 pounds per side. I would consider two stand-alone 2x8 cell packs, each with its own BMS, for each side of a...

    Li-ion or LiFePO4?

I think it's mainly a space/packaging problem. Existing popular battery cases can't hold enough LiFEPO4 cells of similar size to maintain the same voltage and AH. For example, Wallyki's 52V20AH could be built with 56 21700 5Ah cells. A somewhat larger 26650 4AH LiFE cell is available and I...

    Display Flashing Engine Symbol

Well, what does the flashing motor signal mean? On one of my bikes, the brake warning signal looks like a motor, or a Tie fighter... |-O-| . It came on yesterday when I was riding and lost power. When I realized it was the brakes, I jiggled the levers and it went away. Whew, I might have...

Are these normal phase wire voltages?

It's all digital in the end. The controller only looks to see if the Hall signal is above its digital Vin, probably 2V. However, your Hall outputs, which I didn't look at, should be similar. As for the 13V, you;re the circuit guy, I gave you two typical drive circuits to get you understanding...

Are these normal phase wire voltages?

I feel you're wasting your time. Best way to test a motor is to hook it to a good controller. Conversely, you test a controller by hooking it to a good motor. Here's two schematics for popular controllers that are representative of motor drives. You can examine the mosfet drive circuits,

    The Universal Ebike!

Six years ago, I ordered the Ecotric Fat Tire folder for my wife, sight unseen, When it came, I looked in the box and thought they sent me a 26" model as the tire diameter was close to 24". My wife said "#%#^, get that thing outa here",when she rode it. Well, I only paid $700 for it, and it had...

Spoke length for Milano rear wheel

I've built over a dozen wheels most of them hub motors, Earlier this year, I broke a spoke on a normal rear wheel with freewheel. I thought it would be a piece of cake, with my wheel building experience, to take out an unbroken spoke for a measurement. Easy, but it took some time. Had to remove...

    Upgraded to lithium issue

Do check your battery connections and wires on the bike to make sure they haven't corroded away. I've had connectors exposed to 5 years of weather frizzle down to a few strands of wire. That can drop a lot of volts. Wattmeters like this one or that one are useful in finding out what's going...
