    CBS Evening News

When I last rode the the Shinning Sea Trail on the Cape in 2021, There were NO E-BIKE signs posted at the north trailhead off Depot Rd in Falmouth. There were none posted at the South trailhead near the ferry terminal though. Looks like things have changed since then.

That's good to know. When I last rode the Cape Cod Canal, there were signs posted that said "NO E-BIKES". I'm glad to hear they have loosened up a bit on the regs.

    Road Dust Problem

It would be best to get a chain wear gauge and proactively replace the chain when it reaches 75%. There are many cheaper gauges on the market but I prefer this one from Park Tool : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OZFILW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details

    CBS Evening News

I was pleased to see a rebuttal of that CBS e-bike story on our local TV station. In an interview, a local bike shop owner outlined the problem in a few short words. Basically, he said what we here already know. Conventional bikes can do just as much damage in an accident as an e-bike. It isn't...

    The transition

I don't much care where the products I buy originate. I do care about supply chain disruptions making it difficult to get these products because they are all made overseas. What happens when war, tariffs, weather, etc disrupt the worldwide flow of goods & materials? I think it critical that we...

Source for Magura Motor Cutout Switch

I do the same thing. It saves having to reset the cruise control every time you slow or stop. The only problem with doing this is, the bike could take off unexpectedly when you take your hands off the brake levers. As a safety measure, I have the cruise control mounted so it can be turned off...

    Road Dust Problem

I think the answer depends on what type of bike you ride. Derailleur cogs, cassette gears, chain rings and motor sprockets do wear, but they're made of hardened steel and take much longer to wear out than a chain. Again, cleaning and lubing will extend their life, but I've never had to replace...

    Road Dust Problem

Keep in mind a chain is a wear item and will need to be replaced eventually. Sure, cleaning and lubing on a regular basis will definitely extend its life but how much time, effort and $$ are you willing to spend to get extra life out of it? Chains are relatively cheap and easy to replace so IMO...

    Road Dust Problem

The WD 40 dry lube would probably work to keep dust from accumulating on most bike surfaces but IMO, it won't provide enough lubrication for the chain. I've never tried it and others may disagree, but I would use another product specifically designed for chains.

Source for Magura Motor Cutout Switch

Yes, the warranty expired last year. It's likely my fault anyway. The crack probably happened when I dropped the bike 2 seasons ago. The leak was so slow, I never noticed it because it was in the reservoir, not the high pressure plumbing. It was likely the reason I needed to bleed the brake at...

Source for Magura Motor Cutout Switch

The switch wasn't the only problem. It turned out to be a much more expensive repair. After I disassembled the brake handle, I found the hydraulic reservoir had a fine crack that was slowly leaking oil. It was the reason I had to keep bleeding the system to restore good braking action. I had to...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

I actually saw a bike with a sail on a trail a few years back. Looked similar to this one:

Source for Magura Motor Cutout Switch

Yes, Magura uses "Royal Blood" mineral oil. I'll look into the Tektro, but I doubt the parts are compatible. Thanks for the tip though.

Source for Magura Motor Cutout Switch

Anyone find a source for the motor cutout micro switch imbedded in a Magura brake handle? It's a replaceable part, but I have yet to find one. I can usually clean the buildup of road debris from the mechanism but I have two with bad contacts inside the sealed switch. So far, I've only been able...

    Road Dust Problem

When travelling in dusty environments, I've had good luck lightly coating dust collecting parts of my bike with dry silicone spray...

Is There a Quality Hardwired E-bike Headlight?

I already have the Trail Evo and it is indeed a nice light. A bit spendy at $249 US though. I don't leave it on the bike 24/7, especially during transport. Too easy to steal and it needs to be taken off the bike anyway to recharge. It's also just one more thing to put on the bike when prepping...

Is There a Quality Hardwired E-bike Headlight?

I already have that same buck converter mounted on the bike for other accessories. The light bar is a tempting idea but it takes up a lot of space on the front of the bike. It's also a lot of wattage. If I need that much light, I just mount my 2200 lumen Trail Evo self powered light ...

Is There a Quality Hardwired E-bike Headlight?

Found the specs for the bike's OEM headlight It's the Axendo 40 XE. I'm not sure what they mean by a posted power consumption of 1,8 watts. 1.8 watts or 1 - 8 night / day variable? The voltage is listed at 36 / 48V and the light output is 40 lux. Any way you look at it, the dome light in my...

Is There a Quality Hardwired E-bike Headlight?

I'm looking for some serious light, in the neighborhood of 1000+ lumens. I doubt my controller & wiring will handle that kind of wattage. I'm considering this one from Lezyne...

Is There a Quality Hardwired E-bike Headlight?

No, it isn't published anywhere I can see. It can't be much, since the wire looks to be the size of a human hair.
