End of season battery partial drain

The main reason not to do this is just the unnecessary wear on the motor, internal gears (if any) and bearings. What type battery is it? what does the discharge connector look like? If you can safely access the contacts, a simple discharge rig can be made using a lamp with an incandescent bulb...

Just received a new Dorado 25ah battery

I have two older style Dorado DP9 52V, 20ah batteries that get used in the rain occasionally. The DP9 case isn't waterproof but I've never had a problem with corrosion in the past. If there's rain in the forecast, I stretch an old shower cap over the battery or apply plastic wrap around the...

New to Forum, garage storage suggestions?

It looks like I'm going to take some of my own advice. The walls of my heated garage / workshop are lined with shelving, so wall type bike racks won't work. The shop has a 10' ceiling though, so I ordered one of these to take advantage of the wasted space...

NSW [Australia] considering plan to halve power and top speed of ebikes as rider dies in collision with garbage truck

A heavier bike might work to the advantage of the rider. The garbage truck wouldn't notice the difference. Would be a different story if we were talking about pedestrian collisions.

NSW [Australia] considering plan to halve power and top speed of ebikes as rider dies in collision with garbage truck

The joke is, conventional bikes can be ridden at the same speed as an e-bike and are just as much a target for garbage trucks. Conventional bike collisions happen every day but aren't newsworthy and don't generate new laws.

    Charger timer?

The only issue I have with charging to 80% is, it can lead to an increase in the number of charge cycles . Not sure which is more harmful, charging to 100% or charging more frequently.

    Hoping this is ok here

As you've discovered, you need a pump specifically designed for air shocks. There are many out there with varying prices. The Silca is a great choice, but a bit high priced. Likely a good product to own, especially if you use it frequently. I use this relatively cheap unit from Fox...

E-Bike Theft (no way to prevent it?)

Then there's the old dodge of putting a piece of junk you're trying to get rid of at the curb with a sign that says "Free". If there are no takers, replace the free sign with a price tag. Someone is sure to steal it.

    Charger timer?

I've had problems with many electronic and mechanical timers over the years. Once in a great while, one will fail to turn off. We get frequent power surges & outages here and they can mess up some timers. If I'm not nearby to check on the charge cycle, I've gotten in the habit of using the...

    Just for fun...

We've named all our turkeys. The hard part is deciding which one to invite in for dinner.

    Thanksgiving Day Thoughts

It's tough for us not to have turkey since they keep inviting themselves to dinner.

E-Bike Theft (no way to prevent it?)

May well be true as long as the tandem doesn't get stolen too.

    Tire liner shock! Weird!

It's possible the difficulty I'm having with Tannus is due to the deep rims on my mag wheels. It may not be a problem with a spoked wheel rim.

    Tire liner shock! Weird!

I used Tannus Armor in all my bike tires for 5 seasons with zero issues. My only complaint is, even in the shop, they are very difficult to install on my 2.3" tires and darn near impossible to service on the trail. I also found that unless I deflate the tires when not in use, the Tannus over...

E-Bike Theft (no way to prevent it?)

Aside from locks, the best way to prevent theft is to make the other guys bike look more attractive and easier to steal.

    Thanksgiving Day Thoughts

A six year old thread but still very applicable. We do indeed owe a debt of gratitude to those who contribute here, as well as those worldwide who have contributed to the e-bike revolution! My only complaint is, there is snow on the ground and it's too darn cold to ride this Thanksgiving...

    Tire liner shock! Weird!

I substituted Mr. Tuffy's for the Tannus Armor I was previously using in all 6 of my 26" bike tires. In every case, there was a 2" overlap, which I'm told is normal. The overlap shrinks when the tire it inflated and prevents gaps. It is likely the person who serviced your bike didn't know this...

What assist levels do you usually use on e-road bikes?

For long rides, greater than 30 miles or so, I generally don't use PAS at all. Instead, I set the cruise control to my desired speed and apply pedal pressure to assist the bike, rather than it assisting me. On average, this technique gives me a 14% increase in range by eliminating wasteful...
