Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

I think the power of the wind in racing tactics is best demonstrated in flat country with no trees with a massive crosswind when the peloton breaks down into echelons. In a moment all tactics are changed and it's complete chaos. If you are caught on the wrong side of a split it might be...

Sorry Jeremy on my phone here & didnt see any replies to OP's question until after I'd posted my longwinded answer. So naturally some repetition here. Complicated answers but it's a complicated sport. Good question about what book to read. Realise I don't have a clue, haven't read many and...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Ok it's complicated but primarily individual in that there is a team leader and generally the team is there to help them win. But with 100 plus riders it doesn't always go to plan and any rider can win. And basically the first rider across the line is the winner. Then there is the terrain...

It's Jayco's big home race so they'll be expected to really compete. Must check the finalised team line up. Think Dunbar has left for Pinarello Q36.5 this year.

Yes I'm kind of interested in the Netflix take over of Warners because for some labrinthian reason Netflix would acquire TNT (Discovery/Warners) sports in Europe but not in the US. Which begs the question what will happen to cycling coverage? Apparently TNT is haemorrhaging money and signs are...

Simon Yates retiring. Sudden & shock announcement of the Visma star retiring immediately, just before the start of the 2026 season. The 2025 Giro Italia champion aged 33 has called it a day. I'm pretty shocked. Guess he feels he's retiring at the top of his game, doesn't sound like it's any...

Dog? You mean Ireland? Ireland is famously shaped like a teddy bear, I'll have you know!

I suspect that much sweep-back could create a bit of a cramped position on the Vado SL, without getting a longer stem, which could change handling too much.

First thing I did back in 2020 on my Vado SL was change the handlebars to something with more sweep and a more comfortable wrist angle. Never looked back.

Keen sandals? That's my go to Summer riding footwear! Love them. Looking at that sunshine & sandals makes me long for the Spring to kick in. Sunny here today and -2c so nice and bright. Roads are pretty dry too so could have risked a ride, but stuck doing my annual accounts. Like homework. Dammit.

2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

My mother used run a B&B in Ireland when I was growing up and we always had some Vegemite in the cupboard for the Aussie travellers. Like many Irish families we had all visited Oz at one point or another and brought some back. Though it had to be separated in the cupboard from the Marmite, in...

Spam tins are American. Probably spread to UK with US troops stationed in UK in WW2. - just looked it up; originated in Minnesota. Well you live and learn. Didn't know marmalade was especially British. But then I once spent a fruitless half hour searching a Walmarts in US for the biscuit aisle...

Decided to look up what Amflows sales for 25 internationally were like, given it was launched in Europe last summer (24) but low and behold the wonderful dysfunctional bike industry does not issue annual sales lists, unlike the car industry say, preferring to keep things tight lipped (its such a...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

It's interesting looking at the blurring of lines at the cutting edge of competitive Gravel racing and XC. Shows how everything evolves and for gravel there is no set locked in standard, even from race to race bike set up changes, let alone model changes from year to year. Here's some MTBs...
