Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Chain life depends on ride conditions as well as maintenance, so it's tough to predict how long a chain will last. Here's a quick and easy waxing method that I use. Maxima spray-on chain lube worked great on my motos and has proven itself on my bikes as well. The carrier solvent cleans and...

22 Vado SL 5.0 EQ Frame Bags/Storage Recommendations

@Hekkubus - I made a small cut-out in the top bag to access the on/off button, but I use a Garmin for info once rolling. (oops, the photo shows the Levo SL home page on the Garmin)

Dry, fair weather riding here in the desert southwest. Most miles are on pavement, but the most fun miles are often on hardback dirt or gravel. Wider tires provide more cushion and traction and don't seem to have a negative effect. Here are some pics from February and March (Death Valley...

    SL Range Extender 'Range' Considerations

You might check Mission Control mid ride and near the end to see when it’s drawing from both. it could be that when the RE gets low into the power saving mode the bike begins to draw from the main battery as well so you don’t lose power.

    Turbo Creo handlebar height

Thank you for correcting my bad arithmetic, @mschwett ! I corrected the error in my post above. I’m traveling this month but will try to find the service manual section stating not to extend the stem more than the 30mm duckbill + three 5mm spacers.

    Turbo Creo handlebar height

@mschwett - yes, what’s in the spare parts bag seems to vary. I did not get a short duckbill with my Vado SL, so I asked the shop for one so I cloud lower the stem all the way. They gave me a short duckbill they didn’t install on a Roubaix. Two things to pay attention to: 1. Don’t raise the...

    Turbo Creo handlebar height

It’s possible to adjust the stem height on the Creo by 30mm. This is done by adding or removing three 5mm spacers and choosing a tall (30mm) or short (15mm) “duckbill” spacer. The bike usually comes mid-height with the tall duckbill installed and the short duckbill and 5mm spacers in the parts...

    Vado SL 5.1 GQ, a 27.5/650b “Gravel-Queen”

Hi @Nubnub - We removed both the rack and fender. Because they provide support to one another you have to keep or lose both. We cut the taillight wire at the base of the fender, taped both ends, and tucked the bike end under the motor cover. We would need to add connectors to restore the rack...

    2021 vs 2022 Vado SL 5.0

47mm is about the widest 700 tire you can fit (even without fenders or rack). I like the Specialized Tracer 700x47. If you need wider you’ll have to go with smaller wheels. Mrs levity uses 27.5 (650b) wheels and can fit tires up to 2.1” wide...

    New Creo Owner, first impressions

You might try setting Eco and Trail Peak Power to 100% and see how you like it. That way you'll be rewarded proportionally for your effort. If you go to the trouble to swap chainrings you might go lower - even a 42t ring is a bit less than 10% lower gearing. I run a 40t chainring and can easily...

2021 Turbo Creo SL Expert EVO - 3 month review

👍 And I agree with @Stefan Mikes that bigger is better - we replaced the 700x38 Pathfinder Pro tires on our Creo EVOs with 700x42 shown below. The larger tire can be run at lower pressures and provides more cushion and traction with minimal increase in rolling resistance. For best performance...

Vado SLs in Death Valley Natl Park

Mr. @Stefan Mikes - Thank you so much for sharing the great EMBN video! Steve always does a good job of capturing the sense of a ride. The Cerro Gordo road is scenic going up, and can be thrilling going down. Most of the views shown are to the west over the Owens Valley with only the peek from...

    SL Range Extender 'Range' Considerations

Two factors contribute to “high” battery consumption in the rides I reported in Table 2 above: 1. Elevation gain. The rides I listed above have 15 and 21 m/k gain whereas the rides listed in the first Table by @Stefan Mikes have 2.5m/k gain. No distance is given in the third Table above, but...

    SL Range Extender 'Range' Considerations

Here are some data from a couple of different rides on my Vado SL. Both used the Main Battery and Range Extender. The first is a long climb and descent using 30% Assist with Peak Power set to 100%. The second is a shorter, easy recovery ride with some hills using 50% Assist and 100% Peak Power...
