    LA Fires!

One of the things that climate change is driving is periods of very high rainfall followed by very dry periods. The periods with very high rainfall produce a lot of vegetation growth, which is nicely dried out and provides even more fuel for the next fire during one of those dry periods...

Battery power dependent on level of charge?

Extremely sort of. This is all extremely approximate but I'll try to give a simplified explanation: Imagine if you take an electric motor and feed a constant voltage. The motor will spin at a certain speed (RPM) for that voltage. Increase the voltage and you'll get more RPMS. You haven't...

Battery power dependent on level of charge?

Volts are not power. Watts are a unit of power. Watts are the product of Volts and Amperes. Literally the product.

    LA Fires!

Oh c'mon, we know everybody online has spent years fighting wildfires and is an expert on the topic. Having said that, most of the politically motivated criticism is based on ignorance that would be hilarious if it weren't so tragic and pathetic. And politically motivated criticism of wildfire...

    LA Fires!

Funny thing is, in dry and extremely windy conditions you don't fight a fire by putting water on it. You're better off putting that water on stuff that hasn't burned yet to try and slow the damned thing down. Fighting a fire in extreme conditions is like fighting a tornado. Sometimes literally.

2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

The places in the PNW near the Canadian Border look Nothing At All Like Ukraine. In places if you squint hard maybe parts of Slovakia, without the people. Not Ukraine: Most definitely Not Ukraine:

I agree, but that is an argument for negotiating a new deal, not for just pretending there is no deal and letting any idea, no matter how idiotic, bloom. My opinions about micromobility and the opportunities that e-bikes represent for our society are pretty close to your own. But I am not...

    Throttles and California

The deal, as defined in 2002, was that e-bikes would be regulated as bicycles as long as they stayed within certain power and speed ranges. Manufacturers and consumers have broken that deal so it is reasonable to expect that e-bikes will be regulated as motor vehicles now. The days of the Wild...

Is mid-drive vs hub drive efficiency differential affect by pedaling cadence?

Until they get wet and then they are scrap metal.

Please don't paint all of us with one brush here. There are over 330 million people in this country. There are likely more people in this country who'd agree with you than there are in Poland. To me this is One More Example of where people are marketed and socialized to "want" things that are...

... except that arguably the Chinese conglomerates that make the most offensive e-motorbikes are probably bigger companies, both in terms of annual sales and employees, than any of the "Big" bicycle companies. The problem in our system is you can't hold those companies accountable, period.

I've spoken privately with a few people who maintain MTB trails and they are talking about putting barriers in place that you can reasonably hoist an FS MTB over but won't be practical for most people to get a heavy e-moto over. And a lot more MTB routes are not being published or shared to...

I don't know, when you look at some hard numbers about how people use e-bikes they don't seem to be going screaming fast... https://nacto.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020bikesharesnapshot.pdf Just for reference, 12 minutes for 1.5 miles is 7.5 mph average speed. This study from China is...

    Throttles and California

What matters for power output is the total weight of bike and rider and cargo. Also, I am a moderately fit cyclist and have hooked myself up to a power meter and I am hard pressed to sustain 250 watts for more than about ninety minutes. Most acoustic cyclists I see here are less fit and I...

    A possible way....?

What I'd say is that most of those manufacturers are small-batch operations and they'd probably make you a custom model with your preferences. Or you could make your own: https://www.coldbike.com/2018/10/05/myog-pogies/

There is obviously a backstory here. So some more context would be helpful. Also, the Internet is the Very Worst Place to get advice on something like this.

I would think that would depend a bit on the politics in questions.
