    Rad January funding or close

As far as I can tell, they bought the name and IP in bankruptcy. They aren't offering support or parts for existing customers.

    Help with my first build!

I missed the part about going high 30's or 40's. You won't be able to go that fast with a cheap kit and it won't be safe on a cheap bike. You are essentially building an emotorcycle. At speeds above 25mph, wind resistance becomes the dominant force you have to overcome and it increases...

    Help with my first build!

A hardtail MTN bike is a good choice. I would get a kit from a reputable vendor that offers support since it is your first build rather than a cheap Chinese kit. Hub motor kits work well on flat ground and moderate hills, but if you are doing long steep hills then a mid-drive would be a better...

    4 better then 3?

I think that a tilting design would be less likely to tip over with either three or four wheels.

    I need a battery and a charger

If the battery has sat for a while, some or all of the cells probably have discharged below the minimum (cutoff) voltage of the BMS. It is possible to revive such a battery by opening it up and charging the individual cells above the cutoff voltage and balancing them. However, there is a risk of...

36V Commuter Battery is Dying - Rebuild or Replace?

If it were me, I would buy a new battery from either Grin or EM3EV. Grin is more expensive, but they offer great support and have contributed a lot to the DIY ebike market over the years. Those are the battery vendors with the best reputation for safe and reliable batteries. There are other...

Easy way to tell if controller built into hub motor?

The Bafang geared 500w should be a decent motor. I don't have any personal experience with it.

Easy way to tell if controller built into hub motor?

Personally, I wouldn't put any time or money into reviving that motor when a new motor kit is relatively inexpensive. But if you want the challenge, go for it. I am not sure what the black stuff is on the windings from the picture. It looks a bit glossy and may not be charring from...

Bike Light powered by my on/off switch connected to a battery bank?

Pitlock sells a locking bolt for headlights. I installed a set of Pitlocks including the headlight lock on one of my non-electric bikes. It is kind of a pain. I have to get the special key out even to adjust my seat. I haven't had anything stolen, but I try to be careful where I lock my bike...

Source for Tektro 203 mm adapters?

Here is an IS mount 203mm rear adapter: https://northwestbicycle.com/products/hayes-post-disc-brake-adaptor-for-is-mount-rear-203mm-rotor-diameter-br3956?currency=USD&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz_TQ0JK08wIV3h-tBh3k-Q97EAQYASABEgJMyPD_BwE

Source for Tektro 203 mm adapters?

They are out there. You don't have to get the Tektro brand, any brand of adapters should work. My Surly Disc Trucker uses IS style mounts (bolt from the side). I am not sure if there are Surly models that use Post style mounts.

This is from a similar kit. Maybe it can help you sort it out.

Get a good helmet, and wear it.

I am simply saying that the risks to pedestrians and cyclists are similar. People are quick to shame cyclists for not wearing a helmet, but think nothing of walking on the side of the road without one. I do wear a helmet while cycling most of the time and never wear a helmet while walking...

    Battery Compartment Concern

You might want to check with the building she works in. Many have indoor or covered bike storage. I have worked in buildings that had a bike cage in a parking garage, one that offered individual bike lockers, and another small company that allowed bikes to be stored in a back room.

    Is it worth it ?

Upgrading to 52V would give you more speed for the same current, but not more torque. It most likely wouldn't damage your controller, but I couldn't say for sure. It would throw any voltage and range calculations on your display off.

Get a good helmet, and wear it.

Per trip, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car crash. Risk per lifetime (US) Risk of death during lifetime Heart disease 1 in 5 Motor vehicle accident 1 in 84 Pedestrian accident 1 in 626 Motorcycle accident 1 in...

Get a good helmet, and wear it.

Also, if it is not obvious, I was using sarcasm to make a point. People who think it is goofy to wear a helmet while walking or driving a car seem to be very quick to judge and condemn anyone who would ride a bike without a helmet. Yet the risks aren't that different. And if you are hit by a...

Get a good helmet, and wear it.

I don't know. If you are talking about outdoors on the street only, I don't think it is that much. Maybe there are a lot of pedestrians in dense urban areas, but if you have 100 people crossing at the light at the same time they are not likely to be hit by a car. Most people will walk from...

Get a good helmet, and wear it.

It comes down to personal choice. An estimated 675 cyclists were killed in accidents during 2020. An estimated 6,721 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents in 2020. Pedestrians accounted for 17% of all traffic fatalities in 2019. Cyclists accounted for 2%.
