Well, I like tools. Maybe I am hoarding them, but it seems like there are plenty to go around for those that want them. And with Amazon, any tool you need is only a few days away. Even hard to find specialty tools. I hope my daughter enjoys my tools after I am gone. She does know how to use...

    Aventon Aventure M

He has a nice bike path a few hundred yards from his house right on the bay. I have got him out walking on it a few times, but he is not real motivated to go out by himself. The TV isn't his problem. He is a workaholic and works at a computer. Unfortunately he is an hour drive from where I am...

There are, in fact, 400 lb Americans out there. I have a friend who fits the description (although he is not lazy) and I would love to get him on a bike. But I don't think this would be the bike for him. Maybe some type of trike. When you weigh that much and take a fall, it's not going to end well.

    Camera damage in handlebar-mounted phones?

It's a chat bot though. You can't take that for an official answer. Regardless, there are people reporting such damage. So it seems to be happening. Maybe the best approach is to buy the extended protection plan.

    Gravel Vs. Trail Bikes

That does look like a more substantial battery on that bike. My batteries are either bought from Grin, EM3EV, or the official Brompton battery on my wife's bike. So I am not concerned with quality and I use a Satiator to charge all but the Brompton, so I get the charge I want.

New ebike laws in California taking effect January 1, 2026

I really dislike flashing red lights on bicycles or pedestrians (runners wear these sometimes). I think it is harder for motorists to tell how far away a flashing light is and they are way more distracting to drivers than solid red lights and can cause impaired drivers to steer towards the...

    Gravel Vs. Trail Bikes

Well, Pedaluma's builds do not use proprietary or built in batteries. I was just wondering about getting the same clean look, but with a bigger, more practical battery. And sharks / jumbo sharks are easily swapped if you need to carry a spare. 2.5 hours is respectable, but doesn't really talk...

    Gravel Vs. Trail Bikes

I like the look of these bikes, but I have to wonder if the stealth of the bottle batteries is worth the trade off of lower range. It does work for last mile while commuting by train, but the bike is legal to ride, so why not get a shark or jumbo shark battery and enjoy the extra range for...

I can't say I use it much, I just wanted something compact to keep in the car for emergencies. I have a few other tools in the bag with it. The Knipex Pliers Wrench is also in the bag. I also have some Wera screwdrivers that I use a lot more. I seem to collect a lot of tools I don't use too...

I keep a Wera Toolcheck in the back of my car. Neat little set.

    Winter e-biking advices

Not really winter biking, because I am a fair weather cyclist, but I bought a Wahoo Kikr Treadmill earlier this year to replace my 20 year old treadmill that was on its last legs. It integrates with Zwift and Zwift can control the incline to simulate hills. But the best feature is the run free...

The last upgrades for my Aipas

The cable actuated hydraulic brakes are useful for converting e-bikes that may have a switch integrated in the cable brake levers to hydraulic. There is a use case for them. I am a fan of over-engineering, but those brakes can probably lock up the wheel and will be fine for stopping that bike...

    Gravel Vs. Trail Bikes

The geometry and gearing are different from a road bike as pointed out above. There is gravel bike racing that these bikes were originally designed for. A lot of people in California use them on fire roads and other rough terrain. They are not specifically for roads with gravel on them.

The last upgrades for my Aipas

There is a hybrid type of hydraulic brake called a cable actuated hydraulic brake. It uses a cable, but has a hydraulic piston on the caliper. So it has the self-adjustment feature that hydraulic brakes do, but uses existing cable brake levers.

    Gravel Vs. Trail Bikes

I wanted to add that, while full suspension is more useful than fat tires, I think it belongs in the same category. It is a feature that makes pedaling the bike more difficult in trade for being more comfortable to ride and is really only practical with a motor on the bike (or used for downhill...

    Just for fun...

USB-C takes the guess work out of it. I still have an older Kindle, Bose headphones, and rechargeable computer mice using micro-USB. Everything else is Qi charging or USB-C.

    Gravel Vs. Trail Bikes

Full suspension was originally intended for downhill mountain bikes. It was adapted to e mountain bikes because they can reach the same high speeds of downhill bikes on all kinds of terrain. Kind of like a motorcycle. If you are going too fast to avoid or absorb a bump or pothole with your...

    RAD Power Bikes Going Bust

Note that I said "eventually" and "new normal". That's because I think it will take a while longer and that things will not go back to the way they were. Some jobs will remain remote, some will go back to the office. People will do what they need to do (either find a new job or comply with...

    RAD Power Bikes Going Bust

I feel like there is still a lot of fallout from Covid era policies. Like people thinking they could work remotely, selling their house, moving to the sticks, and then getting called back to the office. We'll get back to a new normal eventually, but we aren't quite there yet.
