2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

A Christmas Event at Magda's This is an annual family gathering at the Social Care Home where my daughter lives. Magda was very happy with the "alpaca therapy" she's recently got! My daughter was (as usually) singing in the choir. This photo was taken with the 10x zoom of my Samsung S24...

I've just watched your latest video Charge (thank you!) You were confronted with the "find my van" issue, which is a typical navigation problem. You could have of course dropped a pin in Google Maps but that's the thing we all forget doing :) I recommended you ran Komoot (without the route) on...

Ed is a weight weenie 😃 and he rides a lightweight gravel e-bike 😊

Ah, Jeremy never goes on really long rides. It was so different for me when the phone based navigation and e-bike control program were eating batteries of my pre-S24U phones as much as I might not have an operable phone to pay for the return train ticket... or to present the ticket to the...

    Just for fun...

Never. I hadn't understood that either. Now, Curd is not Curt :) I thought English speakers were sensitive to even tiny deviation from the proper pronunciation! What's the thing with the corgi puppies?

Now, you should weigh a mechanical derailleur with a cable and compare it to the weight of the AXS with the battery :) Sounds legit! (I'm not a native English speaker).

And one might think you were a bike weight nerd :)

Steve, whatever the new owners did, I can see the ongoing development in Komoot, something I haven't seen in years. Besides, RWGPS certainly has noticed that: a lot on new things there, too.

I meant cycling. Interestingly, the .FIT file can store a way more information than the GPX, so it is used for ride recording (Specialized App, Wahoo...) but the GPX is the cycling thing :)

Isn't it that the electronic derailleur is demonically heavy? I had a GX AXS in my hand and was badly shocked!

I've checked that Komoot didn't need you to Plan or Record anything. Just a good scalable cycling map, a GPS pointer, that's it. KML is the Google disaster, nobody's using it. People only use GPX files for the route; it is the navigation lingua franca. Komoot will export the GPX (it can also...

I must derail this thread again, sorry, Ed! Chris, it looks you do not need the GPS navigation at all; you need an excellent map with your current GPS pointer. Let us do a little speculation here. Assume you equip yourself with an older -- big screen and inxpensive --smartphone. Mount it in...

    @edobici_forza: It's the mechanical drivetrain I hope?

@Chargeride, here is how Wahoo EDGE Ace works. First, necessary to mention there is no need to upload the course to the device on your familiar route (as mine to the pharmacy, tobacco kiosk or specialty beer store). I entered a route from Komoot for demonstration purposes. Normal navigation...

Late. Wasted the whole day by the PC :) P.S. It is 17:05 my time (4:05 pm. yours), I will make the report in some time.

Ah, I promised a demo ride :) Will finish the current work e-mail and am setting off to show how wonderfully Wahoo shows you where you are :)

I have known your needs for a long time :) I can't only remember why you were using RWGPS for a long time :) For me, it is important your beautiful new smartphone safely remains where it belongs while still doing its useful job! Now, another matter. Sometimes, I use live tracking to indicate my...

Have you noticed Jeremy how slow the discharge of the ACE is? :)

    RideWithGPS

Exactly. It is very hard to find out where you are if you cannot see the map displayed on the device, innit. For instance, my Wahoo allows zooming out the map. The black arrows show the course and the blue arrow trail tip is exactly where you are. Aditionally, a black line marks the actual...

Reason 1. It is now a very well known issue. Reason 2. I must mention the motorcyclist Itchy Boots who broke both her tablet and then her phone on the latest season's trip because of the devices insecurely mounted on her motorcycle bars. Reason 3 of many more. Many runners were trying to use...
