What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

There's one place on my daily ride where ride against traffic. It's a 100 yard long stretch of a secondary road and there are two lanes of traffic coming the opposite way. The shoulder on this side of the road is wider than the other side and the other side only has one lane so IMO it's safer...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

I guess the guy who wants to flatten my tires thinks he should have control over who rides past his house on a public road

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

Sadly, many people don't like seeing others having a good time. I had one guy who's house I ride past frequently tell me "it'd be a shame if something poked a hole in one of those tires"

What a Difference Four Years Make

I'll just keep the Haibike. I don't think I could sell it for much and if the Rize is broken for whatever reason, I still have a bike to ride

What a Difference Four Years Make

My 1st ebike was a Haibike trekking 6.0 I believe. It's a very high quality bike but suffers from the meager 250 watt Yamaha motor. I then bought a Rize bikes RX with the bafang ultra motor and finally I have the power needed to effortlessly tackle hills. That said, the quality doesn't match the...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

Kids on bikes are awesome. Old people on bikes are awesome and so are young people. In general it's a very friendly crowd but the negative encounters I've had with hard core dino bike roadies has caused me to become jaded. I no longer initiate a wave to them as most times it's not reciprocated...

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

I've actually had dino bike riders spit at the ground when they pass and see I'm on an ebike. Of course it takes all kinds and some will be very friendly but don't count on it

What a Difference Four Years Make

It's great seeing a wider acceptance of ebikes anywhere.

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

Making gravy while riding is not a good past time

What have you learned from your e-bike experiences?

I have learned not to wave at guys on dino bikes dressed in their kit. They despise us.. Not all of them but it's a pretty fair generalization.

    Greasing the bafang ultra

I now have 2,300mi. on the motor and it's never been opened up. It's just as quiet now as it was on day one. I figured I'd wait until it got a little noisy before attempting maintenance but that hasn't happened. Am I wearing out my gears by not re-greasing? Worst case scenario I'll wait until...

Bafang Ultra Corn Head Grease Install Update - July 2022 to July 2025.

This is bad to admit but I also have a bafang ultra motor and haven't opened it up yet. The bike now has 2,300mi. on it but it's as quiet as it was on day one. Just because it's quiet doesn't mean all is o.k. but I've just been too lazy to take it apart.

How Often Do You Replace Your E-Bike Battery?

I try to keep my battery at around 50% SOC so before a ride, I charge enough to END the ride at around 50% SOC. That way when not in use, the battery stays happy. My ebike will go 35-40mi. on a full charge but I never ride even close to that far so I'm never draining the battery below 20%. I...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I googled it and can't find it

How much to spend on a ebike?

Get a bike with a powerful mid drive like the bafang ultra motor unless you enjoy working a lot. My 1st ebike had a 250 watt motor that was adequate, but I always wished for more power, especially on hills. It was a mid drive and it would go up anything albeit slowly. I think the trend now is...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I'm just going to leave the new chain on and avoid 8th gear for now. Maybe once this chain wears a little, 8th won't skip.. I actually prefer 9th but have avoided it to keep from wearing it out. If I wear out 9th then I'll just go with a new cassette and another new chain. I'm too lazy to put...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I did fiddle with cable tension with no joy. Visually the derailleur lines up with 8th gear. The bike has never been dropped or abused. I doubt the hangar is bent. Again, with the original chain, the bike has spent most of it's 2,000+miles in 8th gear. Although the teeth look just like all the...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I guess I should have held off replacing the chain. I usually cruise in 8th gear to save 9th. With the new chain, 8th gear is skipping. The teeth all look o.k. but it doesn't like the new chain. I guess I'll be using 9th for awhile. Maybe once the new chain wears in a little I can use 8th again...

Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

I'd still love to see an o-ring bicycle chain. I ran a non o-ring chain on my sport bike and got about 8,000mi. on it before it was worn out, I'm talking 35 years ago. Then I switched to an o-ring chain and got 30,000mi. out of that one. Of course there would be a weight penalty for an o-ring...
