People for Bikes: Progress on Ebike Laws in the US

Connecticut (which allows class 1, 2, & 3) just updated its ebike laws for 2025. Some age related changes (helmets and min 16 for class 3), requiring class stickers, and some other interesting things, like trying to get a handle on modified bikes: And some odd restrictions on where you can...

Another "what bikes might be a good fit for me" post, but for a short woman

My wife is 5'0" and chose a Zugo, the only thing she found for that small a rider. There's no way she can lift it, but a rack with a ramp solves that problem. Not gonna meet your price target though.

    Hop-Heads and Beer Geeks Unite!

Count me as another who doesn't care for the current trend of very high alcohol beers... I want to enjoy the taste of a few pints, not get hammered by the time I've finished the second time. The NA beers from the Athletic brewery are also quite good. In the summer I like a good session IPA (Two...

On another forum where I'm a moderator, we pretty much solved the problem by requiring human approval of all new accounts, with an open ended "why do you want to join this forum?" question.

    E-Bike Suggestion

No, it's the "report" button. Spammers don't care if you read the post or click their link. It's all about search engine ranking: the more other sites link to your site, the higher you are in people's search results. "EmileSmith34" is not a real person but a spambot programmed to harvest...

Having trouble on deciding First time E-Biker

Oops, I mistyped... class 3 is limited to 28mph and 750W (class 2 is limited to 20mph). Not saying a cop would know the difference or care, but unless the Texas laws are different from most other states, technically a 38mph won't be street legal.

Having trouble on deciding First time E-Biker

I've never heard of Tesway, but if that thing is 2000W and goes 38mph it's not a street legal bike, it's an electric motorcycle requiring license, registration, and insurance. Class 3 ebikes are limited to 28mph and 750W.

    Gas cans and fun findings.

Around here the VP Racing jugs are popular. "VP Racing 5.5-gallon capacity container can be used to store, carry, and disperse animal feed and attractants, water, and other outdoor products but should not be used as a portable fuel container." See, they're sold by VP Racing Fuels, Inc., but...

Frequent access problems: “Oops! We ran into some problems"

Requiring human approval of new members, and restricting new members from posting links, goes a long way towards reducing spam on other forums where I'm a member or moderator.

What's the difference between the FORUMS terms

My saved bookmark for the forum is the "new posts" page, as I suspect is for a lot of users.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

That's a valid point. However, on other forums where I participate, users are requested not to host pictures offsite, because if the image hosting site closes down, as frequently happens with free sites, or the user reorganizes his albums, the link is broken and the image is lost to the forum...

    the math of hill climbing

State of charge vs. voltage for a given battery type is pretty well understood and reliable, if not terribly accurate. Another way to figure out for us backwards Americans is HP=F*V/375 where F is the force in pounds and V is velocity in mph. For the additional power required for a hill climb...

    Ebike rack

I ended up buying a Rockland 2-bike rack (Amazon) which as far as I can tell is identical to the Young Electric rack (and probably made in the same factory). Easy to assemble, reasonably rigid, though not as rigid as the single rack she was using. Used it for the first time today to take the...

Took a ride today with Mary on the Nyack Beach (NY) bike path which runs 5 miles along the Hudson River from Upper Nyack to Haverstraw. A very nice ride. That's the new Tappan Zee Bridge (which also has a bike path) the the background. Last time I was here was 50 years ago with my parents and...
