    Eurobike 2016 news thread

There's going to be a ton of announcements of new products coming out of Eurobike this week, so I figured I'd create a thread for people to share any updates they've found, whether that be new or updated ebike models, accessories, or rumors. I've been writing up quick posts on Overvolted to...

Haibike to offer GPS tracking for SDURO models via eConnect unit

I'm not sure if the new eConnect will be compatible with older Haibike models or if it will only work with 2017+ SDURO/Yamaha models. No idea if it's going to be standard or not. I'll reach out to Haibike and hopefully get some answers and will provide updates on my Overvolted post here. Do...

Hang bike by front or rear wheel - any issues?

Considering the substantial amount of stresses on your rim, spokes and hub from run-of-the-mill bumps in the road, I wouldn't worry too much about damage from hanging the bike. If you're worried about it, try removing your battery when your bike is hung up.

Do I really need motor cut brake levers?

Definitely use brake cutoff sensors. The reason I love them so much is that I sometimes find myself in top gear going 20+MPH and I see a light turning red in front of me. I hold the brake levers down just far enough to cut off motor power (but not far enough to apply the brakes) while I pedal...

    Refill a Stromer Battery

Most ebike battery pack cells are welded using a spot welder, however, it's easy to remove the individual cells from their welded nickel strips without damaging the cells. It takes anywhere from a few hours to one day to rebuild a battery pack with new 18650 cells. You'll need a wiring diagram...

    Refill a Stromer Battery

Russell Graves rebuilds ebike battery packs. He's located in Washington State in the US. His prices are about half the cost of your $775 battery. https://syonyk.blogspot.com/p/bionx-battery-pack-rebuilds.html His contact form is on the right side of the page linked to above. He even offers...

How do I Carry xtra bat. On an St2s??

You'll want to ditch the seatpost-mounted rack and install the Racktime rack that comes with the ST2 (assuming it will fit the ST2s). Then fit a pannier bag and place the battery (with some padding) into the pannier bag, and you're good to go.

Looks like Trek has new Super Commuter EBike in the works

I wholeheartedly agree with you that suspension is a necessity, especially for 28MPH-capable S-pedelec ebikes. I've met a few people who are really happy with their rigid-frame bikes, though. Also, when I rode the Stromer ST2S (which has a rigid frame), it seemed that the geometry combined with...

    Chain Snapping

I added a few links to reduce chain tension and that fixed the chain snapping issue, however, this bike model (2015 E3 Dash) in general has a problem with the chain hopping off the chainring even when the chain is properly tensioned. It tends to happen more often when the chain isn't properly...

Looks like Specialized is scrapping the hub-drive Turbo line

We don't know what this power gap is. In fact, there may be no power gap at all. In order to determine if there is any power gap, we would need to know the peak power output of each motor, and I don't think that information is public at this point. Also, mid-drive motors are more...

    DIY without the DIY

I read the thread on Endless Sphere and agree with the "Endless Drama" sentiments. The folks from Lunacycle really embarrassed themselves on that thread by being so hostile, though I do appreciate their militant dedication to low cost products and providing value to customers. I don't understand...

Looks like Trek has new Super Commuter EBike in the works

The Super Commuter will be a Bosch-equipped bike – likely the Performance Line, as the SC will be an S-pedelec.

Hubs...current "State of Art" and Hill Climbing....

A geared rear hub motor might make it up the hill, but the ideal solution is to use a mid-drive with >70nm of torque. The Bosch CX/Performance line, the Bafang Max/BBS02/BBSHD or the Yamaha mid-drive would be your best bets. I've ridden a 500W direct drive hub motor for a year and a half and...

    BMW Cruise EBike

Fantastic bike! I'm hoping to be able to come across one of these Cruise bikes to test drive some day. My understanding is that there were some BMW dealers in Canada and Europe that carried them, but I haven't found any US dealers with one in stock. Which country did you buy your Cruise in?

    SUSPENSION STEMS FOR ST-1 & ST-2

Just FYI, if any ST2 owners are considering buying a fork, they might consider buying a SR Suntour Epixon 26" front suspension fork for ~$200. It's the same fork as the ST2 fork but at 1/4 the price.

Bafang Max - First 80 Miles

Congrats on the bike! You made a great choice. I really love the Bafang Max drive. To be fair, the Karmic Koben did beat the MonteCapro to North America by a month or two, so the Koben is the first production bike with the Max drive. :D How was climbing the hill with the full suspension? I'm...

Disappointing Service from BionX and it's 48V Battery

You might consider reaching out to Russell Graves in Seattle. He rebuilds BionX batteries and even offers a discount if it's a variety of battery that he hasn't rebuilt before. Cost is around 700NZD or maybe less. https://syonyk.blogspot.com/p/bionx-battery-pack-rebuilds.html (use contact form...

    Comical biking sign

What's so funny about this sign? The tracks come off the road at an angle, making them especially dangerous to cyclists (who should cross them in perpendicular fashion). Train tracks cause a lot of crashes and injuries: Regarding the above crash, the woman on the cargo bike was carried away...
