PatriciaK's Italian ebike tour adventure 🇮🇹🚴🇮🇹

It's always a good idea to have pictures of your passport and driver's license on a secure cloud site, so if you lose your documents AND phone, you can still see the pics. My (android) phone is linked to Google photos, so any pic I take with my phone is automatically uploaded to my account...

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

But the weight of the bike only matters significantly if you're going uphill. On flats, not a big deal. Consider that the total weight of a typical adult male rider and 50 pound ebike is about 250 pounds. Take 10 pounds off the total for a lighter bike, and you've saved 4 percent of the...

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

You need to build yourself an ebike with a triple crank. That would be a first?

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

Because I'm a recreational rider who rides for fun and exercise, a good portion of my rides are unpowered, on a Trek Allant+ 8S. Even for me, a 73 year old guy on chemotherapy, it's not hard to keep up a 12 mph speed on level ground unpowered. What I could do with an acoustic bike IDK, been...

Luna X2 rear Axle almost failed!

Does this really count as an AXLE fail? Not in my book... Interesting caution, though, about a different failure mode. Thanks for posting.

    Gates Belt Broke

They may last longer but.... - when they break, you're stuck. If I carry a spare link and chain tool, I can usually repair my chain on the road. - when they break, they're much harder to replace and re-tension. Can you even do it in the field if you have a spare? - a belt drive locks you into...

Don't those readings suggest "time to replace"? Good chains are cheaper than good gears...

Looking for a ebike that fits my need

Wishing you a speedy return to health and riding. Yes, certain health problems have real ups and downs. Let's hope you have another "up" again!

Newb, debating ebike options for hills, trails

Could it be motor overheating, so throttling? Most batteries, AFAIK, won't decrease amp draw as they run down. at least not by much. For most batteries, the internal resistance controls maximum current, and for Lion batteries, it's fairly flat from full to discharged.

    2022 Trek 8s First 1000 miles review

Agreed. That's where I bought mine. Remember the swap is easy, with one small caution. And regardless of what others have said, you do NOT need to change the remote.

I have a Trek 8s. Funny thing - my spouse coasts faster than me. She has the same bike...

    2022 Trek 8s First 1000 miles review

It's easy to convert from the smartphone hub to Nyon. You don't need to change any wiring, just change mounts and move connectors from the hub to the Nyon mount. Removing the connectors from the hub is the tricky part, but only if you don't remove the metal plate. If I were to do it again, it...

    2022 Trek 8s First 1000 miles review

Your review is spot on. A good bike badly marred by a bizarre rear rack and a ridiculous phone mount/interface. A cobi.bike app update this spring broke some of the functionality, which pushed me over the edge. I upgraded to Nyon. Best move I've made, but sad that it costs so much.

New to forum - Need thoughts on new ebikes

Yes, this is a pretty complex topic - mid versus hub drive - when it comes to hills. I agree - try bikes out and decide for yourself. You will do yourself a favor if you spend less time looking at published specs, especially motor "wattage". There's no standardized way to measure wattage...

    Hill climber

Why should you care? It's complicated. Since you asked, I guess you don't get it, so never mind. Just don't look at me when your locality (town, county, state?) puts "unpleasant" restrictions on ebikes or their riders.

    Hill climber

A perfect example of why ebikes get a bad rap. A "bike" cruising at over 20 mph? I'm sure analog bikers don't view someone going up a hill at 15 mph as riding a bike...

Anyone notice apple health and Bosch rides are not the same?

Strava and ebike connect show different data. Last year I had cobi.bike and a smartphone hub. This year Nyon and ebike connect. Different numbers. I suspect a big part of the differences is that none of the companies talk about how they measure things. Bosch seems particularly silent on...
