    Goodbye to biking

I'm sorry to hear this @indianajo ! I suppose all of us will face this situation eventually. Hopefully, you'll stick around and continue to share your valuable insights!

    JACKS FOR EBIKE?

I'm 79 with a bad back and yes, I now find a jack to be quite handy. 10 years ago, it wasn't an issue. I have the Park PCS 10 shown above and I use this trick. I first lift the lighter front end of the bike and clamp it in the stand: I then pivot the heavier rear end up into position: No...

The main reason I use two GPS units is so I can keep a detailed topo map in view at all times. That GPS also has an emergency satellite communicator with global coverage that does not need a cellular signal. The second GPS has 10 data fields which is adequate for my needs since I don't display...

    JACKS FOR EBIKE?

If all you need is to get the bike off the ground, these lift type jacks could be modified and would likely work fine. For some jobs, I like to invert the bike to get better access. For that, you can't beat the old downtube clamp. Unfortunately, work stands that use this type of clamp can...

Anyone Tried Tannus Armor in a Schwalbe Marathon + Tire?

In my experience, those issues have been relatively minor. Yes, the inserts do compress over time, but even after 5 seasons, mine still retain over half their original thickness. Even compressed, they still offer a degree of flat protection. I don't deflate my tires when not in use, but I do use...

I took no offense at all by your post. I was just trying to explain my somewhat offbeat approach to e-biking. I looked at several Bosch equipped bikes before buying. Marvelous engineering, but I passed due to their proprietary nature. To me, half the fun is doing your own mods.

I agree. There is an adjustment period with these helmet mirrors. It took awhile for me, but some never get used to them.

Anyone Tried Tannus Armor in a Schwalbe Marathon + Tire?

The motor stator is integrated into the wheel but the armature and associated hardware could in theory be reused. I called Pedego and found these mag wheels have been discontinued. They no longer stock just the bare wheel with stator. They did however have two mag wheel assemblies left with...

No offense taken Stefan, I realize you are more of a "purist" than I am. I don't ride all the time with this much gear. I simply like the option to add as many devices as I deem necessary for a particular ride. Unfortunately, most of the pics I post are of my longer rides with the bars loaded...

I don't ride on road much and those cam devices aren't much good on the trail. I rely mostly on my helmet mounted mirror for anything approaching from behind.

No security devices, just battery locks and a hidden power switch. I maintain security by never letting the bike out of my sight.

First of all, I'm a retired engineer and something of a gadget freak. Half the enjoyment I get when riding, comes from being able to see statistics and conditions at a glance. I'm also a DIY'er and get a lot of enjoyment modifying the bike to suit my needs. I don't have a build thread for the...

Anyone Tried Tannus Armor in a Schwalbe Marathon + Tire?

I'm reviving this old thread to post an incident that happened yesterday. I was riding the paved WMRT trail in western Maryland, when I hit an unseen rock in the shadows. I had the bike heavily loaded and the shock broke a section of the rim on my rear mag wheel: Although not a puncture...

Took my first trip of the season down to ride the trails in Southwest PA & MD this week. Usually, I've made several by this time, but the weather has been just awful here this spring. Overnight it went from too cold & wet to just plain hot. Got out on the GAP trail at 5:45AM to beat the heat...

Woman chased teen on e-bike to 'speak with his parents' for going too fast, Flagler deputies say

Be it right or wrong on both sides, it's idiots like this that are going to get ALL e-biked banned. Sadly, it's far easier than passing unenforceable laws.

Good Morning North America, Good Night Pacific!

Luckily, we all had our vaccinations, so none of us are seriously ill. More of an annoyance really. More concerned about giving it to someone else at this point. Another reason why I skipped the ride this morning.

Good Morning North America, Good Night Pacific!

It wouldn't be so bad if all four in our party didn't get Covid. No real surprise though with 8 buses, 6 planes, one train and a boat involved with the tour we were on.

Just returned from a sea/land cruise to Alaska. While in Denali National Park, we considered renting e-bikes but changed our mind when we saw the hazardous riding conditions. Private vehicles are not allowed, but 268 tour buses are permitted per day on the improved park road. With everyone...

Light(est) small Ebike with throttle for disabled wife (5'2")

You've already received many good suggestions and I thought I'd add mine to the list. I don't normally recommend specific bikes since it's a highly personalized choice, but your situation is similar to mine. My 5' 2" wife also has some mobility issues and had to give up biking more than a...
