This is not good, and its my fault

Maybe save the money and put it towards upgrading the hubs ( and forks) ? BTW , when it's time to replace pads in the guide brakes, take the originals to the shop and be sure you know WHICH guide brakes you have. Some use code pads, overs use smaller ones that can be really hard to source...

This is not good, and its my fault

Yeah, brake fade was one of the reason I upgraded the levo sl brakes.. The stock 4 pot srams would over heat and either fade or boil depending on when I last changed the fluid. Only when I was doing silly things - but that's exactly when you NEED reliable brakes. I've moved to xt's with finned...

Convert normal push bike to ebike, with trailer for 2 kids NSW Australia

Firstly, I'd suggest you reconsider towing kids with anything that attaches up high. Look into something that attaches down near the rear axle. Our first kids trailer attached to the rear axle, it was great and we had a couple of enjoyable years . When the kids outgrew it we had one of those...

This is not good, and its my fault

You've just had a lucky escape - If you're riding at a level where you needed 203 mm rotors, perhaps it's time to take a good look at those forks and hubs ? Do you really want the front wheel dropping out ? Or the lugs snapping off those forks? Or worse . Start by checking what size rotors...

    Large duel sport mirror test

If we're going to talk about taking a hit, we really should reference the original and include the reasons why they can "take a hit." https://www.doubletakemirror.com/about I've been destroying variations on folding mirrors for over 30 years, but haven't needed to replace a motorbike...

    Electric Car thread

I'll confess to looking that up as well - hilarious reading! I particularly liked " Literary scholar Paul Fussell, in his 1991 book BAD – Or, The Dumbing of America, claimed that the name was chosen "because a reference book suggested that Corinthian connotes rich desirability", so as to...

How do I remove this chain link

To be clear, the op showed an sram quick link 12 sp, so here is a picture of my tool with both an sram 12 sp eagle and the kmc 11 sp in my original picture for comparison. Yes, technically these are marketed as single use - but I've never had an issue re-using them ( on the same chain) ...

How do I remove this chain link

With respect, you are wrong....I've been using that tool with those links successfully for 5 years ..... on a fleet of 7 mountain bikes - so at least every month one of them scores a new chain . I'm familiar with chain breaking tools and use them regularly to shorten chains, but its' a 10 sec...

How do I remove this chain link

PS - thanks for reminding me I'd given someone my spare 12 sp link !!!!!!! ( my tool carries 2sets of links)

How do I remove this chain link

Ideally, you'd have a chain link plier - essentially a thin set of pliers that you squeeze the rollers together with ( and reverse the process to setthem) The good ones have multiple other functions - like storing a spare link and tyre levers in the handle

AM1000 vs other $5,000 mountain bikes such as Giant, Cannondale, Trek, etc.

True, and in a few years that tech might trickle down to the price point where a specialized owner might not run screaming from the shop . The sram " budget" T type groupset is Aus $1800 ...

AM1000 vs other $5,000 mountain bikes such as Giant, Cannondale, Trek, etc.

Be careful if you're expecting to put 160 nm through a 12 sp from stationary - especially if you're hoping to accelerate quickly across traffic ! Changing gears under load or starting in too high a gear is nasty to thin chains / cassettes! See if you can get a test ride on a bafang powered...

AM1000 vs other $5,000 mountain bikes such as Giant, Cannondale, Trek, etc.

Take a look at their geometry figures - in particular seat tube angle and chainstay . Then try going back far enough to find similar figures on a big brand bike ( hint, it's more than 6 years ago ) If you just want to power up hills, the Frey is your bike. But if you'd prefer to ride a...

Spring (and Winter) Maintenance - CHECK BOLTS on FS eMTBs~

You're doing well if there is only 1 bolt loose in 6 months! I consider myself reasonably aware of my bike , yet it'd be unusual to go more than a month without a " that doesn't sound right" moment. Usually a loose suspension linkage or bearing on its way out. Most recently, I had THREE...

    Which brake first?

Getting slightly off topic, but since the widespread use of ABS in cars it feels like people have become paranoid about skidding. Going back to the coaster brake era - how many of us would blast down a hill with that rear brake locked? Every advanced motorbike course I've done would include...

    Which brake first?

Yeah, but are you chasing a 15 yo son on a carbon giant reign ? On a 30c day, down a double black run? Then swapping riders and letting your 18 yo daughter ride your levo sl as she chases him down the same run....taking it in turns to try and tire him out. For 3 days. He has xtr's , 230 mm...

    Which brake first?

Nah, you're only really in trouble when the hydraulics boil. They don't usually both boil at the same time......usually... BTW, there ARE times when it's better to lock wheels - it builds up a bit of dirt on the tyres leading edge and increases traction. Learning when , why , and for how...
